Job Description

The Sr. Licensing Consultant is responsible for managing and supporting a range of technology and intellectual property licensing activities within the public safety and video/access security industry, including: interpreting, negotiating, and/or administering contracts; advising on internal licensing policies and compliance; advising on technology standards and related licensing issues; providing input on licensing and IP protection issues to product and business teams; supporting litigation activities, and accessing and maintaining related contract management systems. A key responsibility of the position is to oversee Motorola's technology licensing activities, including invoicing, collections and royalty reporting. The full time position may be remote.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage invoicing, collections and royalty reporting for several technology licensing programs

  • Manage contract documentation/approval workflows to ensure consistency with internal processes, including providing training to business partners on IP contracting processes

  • Assist teams in reviewing, editing, negotiating and finalizing licensing terms of routine transactional agreements to meet business and legal requirements, including: technology, protocol and API/SDK agreements; video and telecom standard essential patents and FRAND license agreements; consulting and advisory agreements; vendor/OEM/ODM supply agreements; and other technology-related agreements

  • Research and respond to general legal inquiries from the business that may relate to contract disputes, product development processes and new business initiatives

  • Maintain, revise and/or update contract templates

  • Proactively develop and maintain technical knowledge in specialized area(s), remaining up-to-date on current trends and best practices

  • Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelor's Degree is required. Seeking emphasis in Electrical/Computer/Software Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or other telecommunications related disciplines

    • 5+ years of full-time experience (university or industry) in technology/intellectual property licensing, technology scouting/assessment, business development and/or contract drafting/negotiation/management

    • Working knowledge of patent, copyright, trademark and trade secret laws

    • Experience drafting and reviewing intellectual property terms of commercial agreements

  • Specific Knowledge & Skills::

    • 3+ years of experience in corporate transactional, contracts negotiations, and/or commercial transactional experience, preferably with background in technology matters, including software licensing, subscription and hosted environments, telecom, video, governments contracts and or intellectual property within the telecommunications industry, including public safety and video/access security

    • Experience with finance and royalty payment/collections processes

    • Experience with software licensing, including open source software licensing and compliance

    • Experience with standards setting organizations (SSO), standard essential patents (SEP) and fair, reasonable and non-discrimatory (FRAND) licensing issues

    • Experience with mergers and acquisitions due diligence processes and acquisition on-boarding

    • Experience with litigation support

    • Experience managing patent portfolios and/or developing and implementing patent filing strategies

    • Knowledge of and/or experience with new product development processes, including freedom to operate (FTO) and right to use (RTU) analysis

    • Strong negotiation, consultation, and analytical skills

    • Excellent problem-solving skills, sound judgment and decision making skills

    • Strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills (including written and verbal)

    • Ability to participate and collaborate in meetings with customers, vendors, attorneys, management, and other third parties with regard to negotiation of agreements and general problem solving

    • Well organized, detail oriented and adept in a fast paced environment

    • Work with the highest level of ethics and discretion

    • Drive results and execution: Identifies issues and raises them so that appropriate actions can be taken to resolve problems or improve the client experience

Target Base Salary Range: $110,000 - $130,000 USD

Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.
