The Fresh Thyme Distribution Center Receiving Manager is responsible for leadership and management of all inbound receiving functions at the distribution center, including product receipt, load breakdown, put-away, slot replenishment, and product transfers. The Receiving Manager must ensure that effective receiving procedures and staffing levels are in place to support the distribution center's financial strength through inbound receiving efficiencies and effectiveness.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide management, training, scheduling, and supervision of the receiving supervisors and staff, ensuring that productivity and receiving accuracy are high. Slots and reserve locations are accurately fulfilled.
  • Develop and manage a Culture of Respect & Safety for the receiving team. Ensure that proper and safe use of heavy equipment and proper and safe lifting techniques are executed consistently to enhance a safe work environment.
  • Utilization of Warehouse Management Systems, RF scan guns, and forklift screens to process and direct put-away and replenishment work.
  • Communicate proactively to distribution leadership regarding receiving information necessary to support the effective operations of the DC.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, organized work environment. Must be knowledgeable of all emergency procedures and regulations regarding fire and other potential emergencies. Is knowledgeable of and adheres to the Food Safety Standards, Regulations, and Procedures that the distribution center must follow.
  • Ensure and monitor product storage conditions, i.e., proper temperatures of product storage and sanitation levels. Manages product placement to avoid improper comingling or cross contamination exposure.
  • Ensures that forklifts, pallet jacks, mobile lifts, racking, and handling equipment used in receiving are in safe operating condition.
  • Actively collaborates with the management team to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel, designed to accommodate the growth objectives of our organization.
  • Motivate and lead a high-performing receiving team to help support and retain team members. Foster a success-oriented, accountable environment within the distribution center.
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities in a highly ethical manner and in accordance with Fresh Thyme Market company policies and procedures. Lead and serve as a role model for others in the organization by consistently demonstrating high ethical standards.
  • Conduct performance reviews and appraisals of supervisors. Provide measurable feedback to assigned personnel and provide coaching support to help improve team member performance. Formulate and implement corrective actions for team members as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and Local laws, as well as all company policies.
  • Keep Distribution Center Operations Manager fully informed of problems or matters of significance and worker safety; take prompt corrective action where necessary and/or recommend alternative courses of action.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • B.S./B.A. degree in a business or department-specific field and/or equivalent work experience
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in distribution center management.
  • Grocery retail distribution or wholesale distribution experience. Produce / Fresh Foods preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience with Warehouse Management Systems, RF, (Power Warehouse WMS & Voice preferred).
  • Experience with development and adherence of performance metrics, process improvement, and operations development.
  • Financial acumen specific to profit & loss statements and analysis.
  • Ability to adapt to the ever-changing retail environment while working in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Must have the ability to take initiative when problems arise.
  • Must have advanced attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written communication and documentation skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills for dealing cross-functionally with peers and senior management.
  • Must have expert knowledge of MS Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Understanding of specific knowledge about Grocery, Produce, and encompassing departments.
  • Ability to multitask is essential.
  • Must be able to lead, support, and contribute to team goals.
  • Flexible hours of availability.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • The potential for prolonged standing, walking, squatting, and/or bending in a refrigerated environment.
  • The ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Prolonged sitting behind a computer screen.
  • Occasional high stress when dealing with systems/customers/staff.
