Job Summary
The Structured Cabling Technician II is responsible for the installation, termination, and maintenance of structured cabling systems supporting large-scale commercial and government infrastructure projects. This position involves hands-on work with copper cabling systems, IT closet builds, and network device installations. The Technician II must perform all tasks safely, accurately, and in compliance with established technical standards and procedures. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity offering ongoing training, professional growth, and advancement within the telecom and low-voltage industry.
Job Responsibilities
- Install and route cable infrastructure, including CAT5/E and CAT6 cabling systems
- Dress and route cables into IT closets, modular furniture, and other designated outlet areas
- Install cable pathways such as J-hooks, D-rings, cable trays, and ladder racks
- Perform cable management, including dressing, bundling, and labeling
- Terminate cables at patch panels, jacks, keystones, and modular plugs (RJ-45)
- Install and mount Wireless Access Points (WAPs) and related network devices
- Assist with IT closet builds, including MDF/IDF setup, racks, ladder racks, trays, and sleeve installation
- Read, interpret, and follow blueprints, schematics, and technical instructions
- Communicate effectively and professionally with team members and supervisors
- Maintain compliance with OSHA and company safety protocols, including the proper use of PPE and worksite cleanup
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in commercial structured cabling, low-voltage, or data cable installation
- Familiarity with BICSI installation standards; BICSI Certification (Level 1 or higher) preferred
- OSHA 10 certification preferred
- Scissor lift certification preferred
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and follow written or verbal technical instructions
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work on ladders, scissor lifts, and in confined spaces
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical labor for extended periods
Tools Required
- Basic hand tools: screwdriver (multi-bit), torpedo level, tape measure, snips, needle-nose pliers, channel locks, cable stripper, punch down tool, modular plug crimper, flashlight, hammer, wrench set, gloves, and tool pouch
- Work boots (steel toe or composite toe) required
