DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Senior Director of Imaging Services, the Nursing Director for Radiology will oversee Interventional Radiology and Radiology Nursing for the Health System. This leadership role encompasses both clinical and administrative functions, including operational and financial oversight, management of clinical and technical staff, and ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality care across the health system.

  • Ensures managers and supervisors effectively implement clinical workflows, patient care and equipment standards, clinical best practices and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
  • Reviews and approves policies and procedures for department operations.
  • Collaborates with patient care leadership across disciplines to improve workflow and patient care.
  • Develops and reviews long term strategic goals with senior leadership.
  • Oversees the establishment of service, productivity, and cost containment metrics.
  • Develops new programs and initiatives based on industry best practices.
  • Recognizes trends and identifies short and long-term solutions to improve performance or resolve problems.
  • Participates in the selection process for new radiology systems and equipment.
  • Works with key stakeholders to establish contingency plans for system downtime or outages.
  • Coordinates resource allocation for radiology services within approved budget.
  • Approves recommendations for new equipment.
  • Forecasts staffing for long term planning and monitors subordinate resource management.
  • Represents radiology and nursing on interdisciplinary committees.
  • Collaborates with patient care leadership and/or physicians on issues related to radiology and patient needs.
  • Defines development plans and core competencies consistent with workforce planning and evidence based standards.
  • Works with subordinate management to evaluate core competencies in Radiology and nursing personnel.
  • Identifies the need for professional development among staff and approves development plans.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing and eight or more years of relevant experience in Radiology Services, or equivalent combination of experience, education and training.

  • Registered Nurse in the State of California

  • Strong hospital management experience, with progressive and in-depth expertise in patient care services. Knowledge of Radiology and Interventional Radiology operations in a hospital or medical center setting; in-depth working knowledge of appropriate professional standards for the Radiology department and team.

  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills to foster and promote an environment for effective communication and collaborative decision making across multiple units and disciplines.

  • Demonstrated excellent leadership, fiscal and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management and staff from all disciplines. Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration and consistent achievement of objectives.

  • Strong knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes.

  • Strong working knowledge of Radiology and relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in Nursing or other advanced degree in relevant area

  • Certification and/or licensure in relevant area

  • Current UC San Diego employee

  • Leadership experience within UC San Diego

  • Clinical experience and knowledge in Imaging and Interventional Radiology Nursing

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $168,800 - $341,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $80.84 - $163.41

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
