Job Summary

The VDC Mechanical Piping Designer supports the Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) team by developing, coordinating, and maintaining accurate 3D models and construction documents for hydronic and process piping systems. This role collaborates closely with engineers, project managers, and field teams to ensure designs are coordinated, constructible, and compliant with TDIndustries' standards of safety, quality, and performance.

The ideal candidate is skilled in VDC/BIM modeling and has a strong understanding of mechanical piping systems and installation methods within commercial or industrial projects.


Essential Duties

  • Develop and maintain 3D models of mechanical piping systems using Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD Fabrication, and Navisworks.

  • Review design drawings, specifications, and submittals to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project scope.

  • Participate in clash detection and coordination meetings, resolving conflicts with other building systems.

  • Generate fabrication drawings, spool sheets, and installation layouts to support construction and prefabrication efforts.

  • Collaborate with project management, engineering, and fabrication teams to ensure constructible and cost-effective designs.

  • Maintain accurate models and drawings throughout all phases of design, coordination, and construction.

  • Meet project deadlines for modeling and document deliverables in alignment with project schedules.

  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior designers or interns on VDC tools and processes.

  • Uphold TDIndustries' commitment to safety, innovation, and quality throughout all project activities.


Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree, trade school, or technical certification preferred.

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in VDC/BIM design or coordination, preferably in mechanical piping or HVAC systems.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Proficient in Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD Fabrication, and Navisworks Manage.

  • Solid understanding of mechanical piping systems, including hydronic, steam, and process piping.

  • Strong ability to interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and coordination requirements.

  • Detail-oriented, with excellent organizational and communication skills.
