Position Overview

Essential Job Duties
We are seeking a researcher to participate in an initiative in human-centered AI for public microtransit systems. The successful candidate will design and implement AI-driven strategies that enhance system performance by promoting prosocial rider behaviors-such as flexible departure timing to benefit vulnerable users-and by personalizing rider interactions to sustain long-term engagement. This role involves modeling individual travel preferences and adaptive time windows, analyzing the effectiveness of message themes (e.g., pro-sociality vs. system efficiency), and deploying tailored persuasive techniques optimized for diverse user profiles.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Interdisciplinary collaboration: Work closely with faculty from computer science, transportation engineering, operations research, and psychology on integrative research related to microtransit systems.

  • AI algorithms and engineering: Design and implement advanced methods to learn rider preferences and effective persuasive approaches to promote cooperation. Build robust pipelines for simulation and integration with a user interface and other app components.

  • User studies: Develop an experimental platform and run user studies to test developed algorithms and analyze impacts.

  • Conference presentations and journal publications: Lead or contribute to conference and journal papers for top venues.
