Job Summary The Analyst will play a dual role in supporting the growth and performance of both short line railroad partnerships and unassigned customer accounts. This position provides analytical, commercial, and relationship management support to drive revenue growth, improve interchange performance, and deliver customer-focused solutions. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, data-driven, and comfortable engaging with both external partners and internal stakeholders to achieve business objectives.
Primary Activities and Responsibilities Short Line Partnerships
Build and maintain strong working relationships with short-line executives and industry stakeholders. Lead joint commercial initiatives designed to expand market opportunities and drive mutual revenue growth. Assist in the development of dashboards, reporting tools, and KPIs to track service visibility and accountability. Collaborate with short line representatives and internal operations to resolve service issues, support joint growth initiatives, and ensure business continuity. Participate in industry meetings, caucuses, and partner discussions to provide commercial insights and represent the company's interests.
Sales Account Support
Manage a portfolio of unassigned customer accounts, ensuring timely response to inquiries and proactive engagement to identify new opportunities. Conduct market research and analysis to identify potential growth within assigned territories or commodities. Support the development of pricing proposals, service agreements, and account strategies in alignment with company objectives. Serve as a key point of contact for customers, balancing commercial needs with operational capabilities.
Cross-Functional & Analytical Support
Develop financial models, pricing analyses, and forecasting tools to evaluate commercial opportunities. Monitor industry trends, regulatory developments, and competitor activity to provide insights that support strategic decision-making. Assist with presentations, reports, and materials for internal leadership, industry groups, and external stakeholders. Partner with internal departments (Marketing, Operations, Finance, Industrial Development) to align strategies and drive execution.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in business, Marketing, Economics, Logistics, or related field. 2 years of relevant experience in sales, commercial analysis, logistics, or transportation
Preferred Qualifications
Graduate degree in business, Marketing, Economics, Logistics, or related field. 5 years of relevant experience in sales, commercial analysis, logistics, or transportation
Knowledge and Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proficiency in Excel and data visualization tools. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with customers and partners in a professional manner. Knowledge of freight rail operations, short line relationships, or transportation industry preferred but not required. Ability to balance multiple responsibilities and work independently in a fast-paced environment. Analytical Thinking: Ability to interpret data and identify actionable insights.
