Make your mark for patients

We seek a Senior Scientist at UCB within our functional genomics group to contribute at an in vitro technical level to design studies, produce and interpret data and contribute to current and future drug discovery projects. This is a mainly wet lab-based position and is based in our Raleigh-Durham, NC location. Candidates should reside in this area.

What you'll do

  • Design and Execute Functional Genomics Assays:
    Develop and implement assays/screens to identify and validate novel targets, assess relevant biology in screening models, and validate hits.
  • Develop Novel In Vitro Assays:
    Innovate and optimize in vitro assays for functional genomics screens.
  • IPSC Model Development:
    Create and utilize IPSC models for disease modeling, integrating them with functional genomics assays.
  • Cross-Functional Scientific Insight:
    Collaborate with UCB teams-including medicinal chemists, cell biologists, disease area experts, and antibody engineers-to provide scientific input on projects.
  • Drive Scientific Learning:
    Apply strong scientific thinking to develop hypotheses and advance knowledge on both projects and the functional genomics platform.
  • Lab and Office Balance:
    Allocate approximately 70% of time to wet lab work and 30% to office-based responsibilities.

Who You'll Work with

You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams across UCB, engaging with experts in medicinal chemistry, cell biology, disease areas, and antibody engineering to drive scientific progress in drug discovery.

Interested? For this position you'll need the following education, experience and skills:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in application of functional genomics.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD.
  • Record of scientific achievement as evidenced by publications, presentations, or patents.
  • Experience in multi-color flow cytometry and microscopy.
  • Experience of applying cellular and biochemical techniques for target identification, validation, genetic screening and evaluating the mechanism of action of novel molecular entities.
  • Expertise in IPSC cell line characterization and differentiation.
  • Experience in molecular biology approaches and advanced cell biology techniques (flow cytometry, gene and protein analysis, PCR, cloning, lentiviral library prep).
  • Excellent communicator, with demonstrated ability to work across disciplines.
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities and engage in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Previous experience in Neuromuscular, Immunology, or Neurodegeneration drug development.
  • Demonstrated experience in a matrixed drug discovery environment including working globally.

This positions reasonably anticipated salary range is $104,800-137,600 annually. The actual salary offered will consider internal equity and may also vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors.
