Job Description

GDS Associates, Inc. has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Engineer in the Hi-Line Engineering department. This position will report to the office multiple days per week and the ideal candidate would live in Metro Atlanta.

The Hi-Line Engineering (Hi-Line) department is a distribution and transmission design group at GDS Associates, Inc. that provides system design and planning services for electric utilities throughout the United States. Hi-Line's services include medium voltage design for overhead pole lines and underground power systems, system planning and analysis, transmission design, substation design, system modeling and load flow analysis, and specialized design services and general consulting services related to the design, construction, and operation of electric power systems.

The Associate Engineer will be responsible for supporting the design and analysis of distribution and transmission system upgrades by applying industry codes and standards. Tasks include using load flow software for system planning, assisting with relay settings, evaluating distributed generation interconnections, and supporting cost estimation and system valuation. The role may also involve providing field engineering support, conducting site inspections, and adapting to new software tools. Strong organization skills, a willingness to learn, and openness to feedback are essential.

Responsibilities:



  • Provide analysis using load flow programs on distribution systems with close supervision.
  • Develop cost estimates and valuations using software tools.
  • Work independently to meet project schedules while being able to collaborate with other team members.
  • Closely supervised with limited latitude for independent judgement.
  • Communicate with project team to assist with client and project needs.

Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Detail-oriented and strong organization skills.
  • Solid problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Flexibility/availability to work extra hours when necessary to meet project requirements.
  • Knowledge of Load Flow software.
  • Ability to travel to project site.
  • Travel requirements will vary from 10% to 15%.
  • Flexibility to work extra hours when necessary to meet project requirements.
