Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP is seeking an entry level civil litigation attorney to join its Mass Torts team in its Winston-Salem office. Primary duties include on-site trial support for the purposes of tracking trial exhibits and related responsibilities working with trial lawyers and court personnel. Requires strong working knowledge of the rules of evidence and trial procedure, strong communication, people and database skills, and proficiency in Excel, IPRO and/or Summation. Trial site work is dynamic and exciting; it requires the abilities to adapt quickly to evolving circumstances, work at a rapid pace, collaborate in teams, and work long hours throughout the duration of the trial.

This role will involve extensive travel outside North Carolina and due to the training involved, candidates must have an interest in participating in multiple trials per year. Trials typically last three to five weeks. Six trials per year is typical with trials back-to-back.

Candidates should be capable of high-level judgment and decision making as well as analytical and legal reasoning. The job will also require close attention to details and the ability to focus on technical tasks associated with litigation databases.

Between trial assignments, primary responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting attorneys with drafting and cite-checking legal documents to include pleadings, briefs, motions, subpoenas, and discovery.
  • Online case research and project analysis and extensive use of client litigation management systems.
  • Assisting attorneys with discovery phase to include expert witness research and summarizing depositions.

Candidates must possess:

  • Excellent writing and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Strong project management skills with attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize project requirements.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with a client service focus.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.

Candidates must be licensed in North Carolina and in good standing. Candidates must be willing to travel for court appearances and the other proceedings as necessary.
