Pipe Layers are responsible forinstalling pipe in storm sewers, gas utilities, and water mains. Laborers must have physical strength, endurance and must also be able to concentrate on their tasks. Assist Foreman and skilled craft workers in performing their assigned duties under close supervision

Typical Duties:

• Digging, spreading and leveling dirt, sand and gravel using a pick shovel or rake
• Installs, removes, and maintains a variety of erosion control products.
• Lift, carry and hold construction materials, tools and supplies
• Clean tools, equipment, material in work area
• Positioning, cutting and connecting pipe
• Maintaining depth by checking the laser beam or grade stakes and communicating with the operator
• Cementing around pipes and inlets
• Communicating with the operator about the alignment of the pipe by using hand signals to ensure the proper depth
• Inspecting the pipe fittings to ensure it is defect free and clean
• Perform a variety of machine tasks such as tamping soil, jackhammering and assisting in the connecting of pipe.
• Work harmoniously, co-operatively and courteously with others at all times
• Perform miscellaneous other duties and responsibilities as required
• Operates manual material handling equipment such as hand jacks and wheeled carts
• Assists in lifting,positioning and securing of materials and work pieces.
• Perform minor maintenance and cleaning activities with tools and equipment.

Job Requirements

• At least 3 years of sitework experience laying pipe in a construction setting
• Applicant must be able to pass drug test and background check.
• The position location is inChesapeake, Virginia
• Individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
• Able to work well in a team environment
• Can take and apply direction from supervisor
• Workers must provide their own safety footwear
• Workers must have reliable transportation, or be able to access jobsites in any location
• Saturdays are required periodically as needed

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts.
• Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration.
• Noise levels in the work environment is usually loud.
• Ability to wear and work in personnel protective equipment including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, ankle-supporting safety-toed work boots and a safety vest.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
