Overview

Con Edison, a multibillion-dollar energy utility, is leading the clean energy transition in New York City and Westchester County. We invest hundreds of millions of dollars annually to integrate distributed resources into our electric and gas systems, support electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and scale adoption of energy efficiency and clean heating technologies across our customers. The Clean Energy Senior Specialist, Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS), will play a crucial role in supporting the Project Management team with the development and deployment of the DERMS platform. This role involves participating in the establishment of Statements of Work (SoWs), software implementation, and ad-hoc reporting for the DERMS project. The Senior Specialist will support special pilot projects, including tests on various telecommunication protocols and dispatch signals between company systems and Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), as well as the design and construction of the planned Grid Edge Renewable Lab. They will collaborate with key vendors, IT, Cyber Security, and other internal stakeholders on DER communication and the implementation of these systems within our DERMS platform. Additionally, the Senior Specialist will engage with key vendors and internal stakeholders to gather user stories and work with Product Owners to prioritize and integrate user requirements. They will also support user engagement and change management practices to drive the adoption of the DERMS platform. The role includes supporting the procurement of equipment for the Grid Edge Renewable Lab, authoring test plans, and defining user acceptance criteria as the platform is deployed. The Senior Specialist will track defects and catalog system deficiencies to ensure the vendor product is properly supported in accordance with the Service Level Agreement (SLA). The ideal candidate will demonstrate a high regard for personal accountability and possess the ability to deliver comprehensive analysis of programs and products that drive business performance.

  • This is a great role to demonstrate your ability to drive results, demonstrate application of cross-disciplinary skills to the clean energy space and gain firsthand experience with the clean energy transition.
  • Will play a crucial role in supporting the Project Management team with the development and deployment of the DERMS platform. This role involves participating in the establishment of Statements of Work (SoWs), software implementation, and ad-hoc reporting for the DERMS project.

  • Interact with internal and external stakeholders and customers to implement data requirements
  • Prepare presentations and become a subject matter expert in critical DER initiatives and provide high level summaries as needed
  • Provide financial reporting and budget oversight of their project within the DERIM team
  • Prepare documents detailing data flows, data requirements, system requirements, integrations & testing plans
  • Communicate insights from analytics to business users and decision makers.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and four years related work experience. or
  • Master's Degree and three yeas related work experience.
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Master's Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field and 3 years related work experience in a system engineering/analysis area.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Project Management experience including working on large multi-million-dollar projects. Required
  • Very strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) are required. Public speaking and presentation experience and skills a plus. Required
  • Experience with the application or design of standards and specification. Required
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data. Required
  • Familiarity with renewable technology and Distributed Energy Resources. Required
  • Self-sufficient person who can work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams. Required
  • Experience in the utility and/or energy industry. Required
  • Knowledge in operations/engineering design of the Distribution system. Required
  • Experience with the procurement of equipment and contractor resources. Preferred
  • Experience producing formal documentation. Preferred
  • Proficient in data visualization and communication using Oracle, SQL, PowerBI & Tableau. Preferred
  • Experience using Azure Dev Ops and Agile development methodologies to streamline workflows. Preferred
  • Experience in communication protocols (SCADA, ADR, 2030.5, or other). Preferred
  • Experience in inverters and/or relay protections. Preferred

Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
