HYBRID: Qualified candidates residing within a 180-mile radius of Los Altos, CA will be classified as a Hybrid employee. In a hybrid work arrangement, you will be able to work remotely, with in-person expectations (once per week, may change as business needs evolve in future ).

Responsibilities

We are seeking a Scouting Manager for State Farm's Silicon Valley-based Scouting team. This individual will successfully identify and evaluate relevant, compelling early-stage companies, then work with State Farm Ventures and other internal stakeholders across our organization to refer the most promising of these companies. This is a fast-paced, strategic role that involves working with many cutting-edge startups, VC firms, accelerators, and the broader start-up ecosystem.



Qualifications

A Day In The Life Of A Scouting Manager:

The Silicon Valley-based Scouting Manager is responsible for identifying and working with a network of exciting startups, top-tier established organizations, as well as venture capitalists, incubators/accelerators, and premier educational institutions to identify emerging technologies, products, services, and solutions for State Farm and our customers

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Tech background helpful; both depth and breadth, weighted toward mobile, APIs, AI/ML, cyber security, IoT, data analytics, blockchain, and edge computing. (3+ years working with startups).
  • Good working knowledge of State Farm's core business lines, distribution models, strategies, and operational challenges. (3+ years working at large organizations).
  • Broad business acumen across a range of industries. Working knowledge of the insurance industry is a plus.
  • Strong associative thinking skills. (I.e., able to "connect the dots" for myriad of implications associated with new tech, products, solutions, etc.)
  • Able to effectively translate complex technological concepts into clear, accessible language for business partners.
  • Experience speaking to large groups and/or participating in industry panels for large audiences.

Preferred skills:

  • Able to effectively represent State Farm with entrepreneurs, senior executives, venture capitalists, and other external stakeholders.
  • Comfortable utilizing leadership courage to challenge the status quo when appropriate.
  • Demonstrated learning agility and curiosity.
  • Excellent strategic and critical thinking abilities
  • Proven track record of effectively collaborating and influencing across organizations.


Our Benefits

Because work-life balance is a priority at State Farm, compensation is based on our standard 38:45-hour work week!

Potential starting salary range: $130,000 - $220,00. Starting salary will be based on skills, background, and experience. High end of the range limited to applicants with significant relevant experience and certain geographical locations.
