Tenure Faculty Professor Position

The Department of Statistics (www.stat.uci.edu) in the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences (ICS) at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), invites transformational leaders to submit an application to become its new Department Chair and Professor with Tenure with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026.

The Department of Statistics has a strong interdisciplinary flavor, focused on developing state-of-the-art methods for solving topical data-driven problems in natural and social sciences, medicine and engineering, and advancing the statistical theory that underlies those methods. The Chair of Statistics will support the department's mission of research excellence, scientific discovery, and training in rigorous statistical methods. The successful candidate will be a nationally recognized leader with a strong reputation for research excellence and superior teaching. As Chair, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the department's future-attracting and mentoring the next generation of statistical researchers and educators.

The Chair will build upon departmental and university strengths, leading with passion a department that works to inform, promote, and evaluate concrete actions to improve scientific discovery through the development and application of novel statistical methodology and theory. The Chair will lead and serve as an advocate for a group of talented and committed faculty, staff, and students from varying backgrounds.

Department of Statistics

The U.S. News and World Report 2025 Best Global Universities ranking identifies UCI as one of the top 30 universities for a graduate degree in statistics in the United States. The department is further ranked within the top 20 statistics graduate programs among all public institutions. Our Master of Data Science (MDS) was recently ranked No. 6 overall on Fortune's list of best masters degree programs in data science and we are host to the first undergraduate degree in data science within the University of California system. The department currently consists of 15 primary faculty, over 50 PhD students and 20 MS students, and 116 MDS students.

Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences

One of only five computing-focused schools among Association of American Universities (AAU) members, UC Irvine's Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences is home to the departments of Computer Science, Informatics, and Statistics. The School's mission is to lead innovation in human-centered information and computing technologies, understand their economic and social significance, and develop an educated workforce to further advance technology. With approximately 4,000 undergraduates, 600 master's students, 400 doctoral students, 100 faculty members, and 85 staff, the School is the largest computing program within the UC system and one of the largest in the nation, providing exceptional opportunities for discovery and learning in all areas of information and computer sciences.

* Ability to work effectively with colleagues at all levels-including administration, faculty, staff, and students-to obtain, manage, and sustain necessary resources to ensure departmental success and growth.

* Dedication to rigorous and innovative pedagogy and academic training.

* Dedication to producing and fostering rigorous and impactful, theoretical, methodological, and collaborative statistical research.
