Supports efficient scheduling flow and facilitates seamless team communication. Supervises and leads the daily operations of the department's scheduling staff. Works closely with department management to provide leadership to KRMC Schedulers. Assists with coordinating scheduling procedures within the hospital. Responsible for scheduling appointments and procedures for patients in a professional, confidential, efficient and caring manner. Collaborates with other staff to contribute to timely, quality patient care and achieve customer service goals.

2. *Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

3. *Assists department management with the day-to-day operation of the scheduling department.

4. *Attends various meetings pertaining to the department to communicate and resolve issues or concerns.

5. *Oversees interventional radiology schedule to ensure correct and timely patient scheduling.

6. *Coordinates with other department managers to ensure block utilization and minimize scheduling gaps.

7. *Follows up with coworkers with support from management to address errors and provides education on processes for scheduling.

8. *Responsible for patient scheduling and coordination in assigned areas. *Works with department management regarding times of service, length of procedures, etc., for appropriate scheduling of patients.

9. *Schedules procedures called in by patients, physicians, and physicians' office staff.

10. *Obtains patient demographic and insurance information.

11. *Communicates appropriately with each area when questions arise, regarding scheduling/block time.

12. *Assists Operating Room charge with managing the surgery schedule to list any changes to block times and adds pertinent information for the rest of the department to reference.

13. Provides patients and referring offices with general information about the specific department, directions to the department, parking, etc.

14. Adds blocks to rooms as needed when providers or staff will not be available.

15. Updates information in the computer system for return patients.

16. Answers the telephone professionally and politely and communicates information to appropriate personnel.

17. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

18. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

19. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or equivalency required. Prior pre-authorization, coding or medical billing experience preferred.

Minimum of one (1) year of work experience as surgery/central scheduler or experience in surgical/ambulatory surgery area required. Medical Terminology or Medical Secretary training/education preferred.
