Job Description

Elwyn seeks a Painter to be responsible for the preparation, painting, finishing, and maintenance of interior and exterior surfaces across Elwyn facilities. This role ensures high-quality finishes that promote a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for clients, staff, and visitors. The Painter performs a variety of painting-related tasks including patching, sanding, priming, and applying coatings on surfaces such as walls, ceilings, doors, and fixtures. Work may be completed independently or as part of a larger maintenance or renovation project team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, patching, sanding, scraping, and priming surfaces as needed.
  • Apply paint, stain, varnish, enamel, or other finishes to various surfaces using brushes, rollers, or sprayers in accordance with manufacturer specifications and best practices.
  • Perform touch-up work and repainting in response to normal wear, damage, or renovation needs.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure proper coverage, appearance, and adherence to quality standards.
  • Follow all applicable safety protocols when using ladders, scaffolding, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Properly handle, store, and dispose of paint materials and hazardous substances in compliance with OSHA, EPA, and local regulations.
  • Maintain and inventory painting tools, supplies, and equipment; report need for replenishment or repair.
  • Collaborate with other trades (e.g., carpentry, electrical) and facility personnel on renovation or repair projects.
  • Document work completed and maintain records as directed by the Facilities Department.
  • Support emergency or after-hours maintenance responses as needed.
  • Ensure work areas are clean, secure, and restored to operational status following painting or renovation activities.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of commercial, residential, or institutional painting experience.
  • Trade or vocational training in painting or surface finishing preferred.
  • Proficient in various painting techniques and tools, including brush, roller, and spray applications.
  • Ability to mix and match paint colors and finishes when necessary.
  • Knowledge of surface preparation, proper paint selection, and curing times.
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and use of PPE in maintenance environments.
  • Ability to read and follow work orders, blueprints, and product instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail, cleanliness, and finishing work.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Professional communication skills and ability to interact respectfully with clients and staff.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel between locations if required.
