Job Summary:

The Kellogg Office of Admissions and Financial Aid seeks a qualified individual for the Data Analyst position. Together with the team, this position will be responsible for the development, configuration and ongoing maintenance of the technology and management systems to support Kellogg Admissions and Financial Aid teams. This includes data management systems, visualization systems, the department's CRM system (Slate), and other university systems. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of data analysis, data management, database structure, SQL, project management, and stakeholder management.

Specific Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning

  • Partners with senior business analysts, end users, and systems analysts to document and analyze business intelligence requirements, identify gaps and alternative approaches to meet requirements, and ensure all deliverables completed.
  • Partners with functional users, technical staff, and other departments to determine best approaches, ensuring that approved solutions are implemented in a timely and accurate manner.

Administration

  • Drafts accurate documentation of process, procedure, and system/application configuration.
  • Gathers and analyzes business requirements from master degree programs.

Development

  • Formulates test scripts and performs detailed testing for moderate to complex use cases to ensure that the implemented solutions function properly.
  • Participates in and may facilitate iterative feedback processes among users, developers, and analysts to ensure functionality aligns with requirements. Draws on prior analytical experience to engage in discussions.
  • Partners with other departments such as Kellogg Information Systems (KIS) and Marketing for data warehousing, statistics, development, and analytics.
  • Assists with the exploration of new Slate features, new technologies and the design of solutions for the user community.
  • Develop processes, queries, visualizations, and automations within and between department systems for business analysis and forecasting.

Performance

  • Assists in software evaluation and enters moderate to complex configurations to meet user needs.
  • Supports admissions stakeholders and partners with their query, technological workflow and data flow needs.
  • Collects feedback from users and escalates moderate to complex critical performance issues with technical resources and management.
  • Creates, prioritizes, and manages enhancements and service requests and tickets.
  • Enables necessary systems changes, articulates requirements, creates and executes test plans, and coordinates responses to production issues on behalf of the Office of Admissions.

Supervises

  • Provides work direction and/or supervise staff such as subordinates, contractors, vendors, students, etc.
  • Manages projects ensuring timelines, deliverables and expectations are met.

Miscellaneous

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)

  • College level degree in a technology, management, or analytics related field or at least 2 years equivalent experience.
  • 3-4 years work experience in analysis working with database systems.
  • Experience working directly with functional analysts and end users is required.
  • Experience in troubleshooting the technical components of an application and its associated back-end processes and integrated applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop complex queries.
  • Exceptional abilities with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, Outlook).
  • Experience with data visualization software such as Tableau, PowerBI, Domo, or similar.
  • Project management experience.
  • Intermediate understanding of SQL.

Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)

  • Exceptional abilities with data visualization software such as Tableau, PowerBI, Domo, or similar.
  • Experience with a structured software implementation methodology is highly desired.
  • Effective management and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage and address complex and sometimes competing priorities.
  • Previous experience working with admissions or collegiate application systems.
  • In depth knowledge of SQL, web services, Slate, and SES.

Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)

  • Knowledge of higher education or commercial sector business practices.
  • A firm understanding of management databases, data integrity, and data analytics. Exceptional ability to manage priorities.

Target hiring range for this position will be $85,000 - $91,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
