Summary

In alignment with Gift of Life Michigan's core purpose and core values, the Medical Examiner/Funeral Home Liaison establishes and maintains good working relationships with forensic and funeral industry professionals in our service area to enhance and improve a collaborative environment that fosters donation opportunities while preserving the respective needs of the customers.


Duties & Responsibilities

The following job duties and responsibilities are stated in broad terms and not intended to be inclusive. Those in bold are essential duties of the position:



  • Establish contacts with key Medical Examiner (ME) offices and Funeral Homes (FH) in Gift of Life's service area.
  • Develop, negotiate, and maintain working contracts with all Medical Examiner offices in accordance with Michigan law.
  • Respond in a timely manner to all ME/FH request for service regarding organ and tissue donation.
  • Work with ME offices to maximize tissue donation.
  • Develop and provide training to Gift of Life clinical staff related to communication with ME offices and funeral homes.
  • Resource to all Gift of Life staff for issues related to ME/FHs.
  • Develop and maintain programs that generate electronica referrals of non-hospital deaths.
  • Collaborate with Hospital Donation Advocates on issues, initiatives, and process improvements to maximize donation.
  • Respond to eye donor issues in the absence of an Eversight liaison.
  • Meet annual performance goals and objectives.
  • Participates in ongoing ME/FH educational displays and exhibits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
Required

  • A bachelor's degree in a field related to the essential duties of the position, including but not limited to healthcare related (biology, exercise science, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to establish relationships and work diplomatically with key stakeholders.


Preferred

  • Funeral Director license
  • Experience in forensics or medical examiner investigations
  • Prior experience in a healthcare organization, transplant center, or organ/tissue procurement organization.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)

  • Written and verbal fluency in English.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook and Teams and other technology systems used in business operations.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple and competing priorities.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail.
