About the Organization
Now is a great time to join Redhorse Corporation. We are a solution-driven company delivering data insights and technology solutions to customers with missions critical to U.S. national interests. We're looking for thoughtful, skilled professionals who thrive as trusted partners building technology-agnostic solutions and want to apply their talents supporting customers with difficult and important mission sets.
About the Role
Redhorse is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Systems Engineer/IT Project Manager to support the architecture, engineering, implementation, and operation of a critical hybrid-cloud mission infrastructure and services for a key Sponsor. This multifaceted role combines deep technical expertise in systems engineering, data forensics, and hybrid-cloud infrastructure with strong IT project management acumen.
The successful candidate will be a crucial part of a team responsible for managing the full lifecycle of a mission-critical infrastructure that hosts dozens of applications and a large data lake. This environment is separate from the Sponsor's enterprise IT services, requiring the team to own all components, from hardware (compute, network, storage) to enterprise services (VDI, Active Directory, audit/logging). The role demands a proactive, hands-on professional capable of providing expert technical guidance, driving security accreditation, and delivering real-time, worldwide support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Systems Engineering & Architecture: Decompose complex customer requirements into technical solutions, factoring in system performance, life cycle costs, and architectural impact of proposed changes.
  • IT Project and Program Support: Assist with project estimation, scheduling, and cost analysis for cloud and on-premises solutions. Participate in and brief at various customer and systems review boards at all levels.
  • Security and Compliance: Shepherd multiple IT systems through the security accreditation and Authorization to Operate (ATO) processes.
  • Documentation Development: Create and maintain essential documentation, including System Security Plans (SSPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), user manuals, and troubleshooting guides for technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Infrastructure Management: Direct or perform the installation and configuration of IT infrastructure, operating systems, and applications.
  • Be responsible for building, planning, and implementing solutions for data storage, maintenance, and backup.
  • Monitor physical storage infrastructure usage, inspect arrays for failures/faults, and correct issues.
  • Apply patches, upgrade software, and ensure data integrity and security across all systems.
  • Use application deployment guides to determine the most efficient and performant IT infrastructure components for new application deployments.
  • Perform server installation, rack/capacity planning, facility and space management, and equipment commissioning/decommissioning.
  • Database Management: Provide technical and strategic guidance to Sponsor personnel for the creation, implementation, and maintenance of new and existing major databases supporting evolving applications (e.g., Mongo Databases).
  • Field & User Support:
  • Provide 24/7 (on-call rotation), in-depth Tier 1 through Tier 3 level support and problem resolution for technology products and applications to worldwide and overseas users.
  • Provide end-to-end support of field network and forensic capabilities, diagnosing and resolving technical and access issues with overseas populations.
  • Inspect and test all equipment prior to deployment, and research/recommend systems, equipment, and technologies to enhance existing systems.
  • Digital Forensics Support: Evaluate the technical and cost implications of forensic tools, making recommendations on the best deployment strategy aligned with the Sponsor's business priorities. Teach digital forensics to large, diverse audiences and maintain/share curated work data.
Required Experience/Clearance
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in systems engineering and/or IT project management in a mission-focused environment.
  • Demonstrated experience using forensic software such as Cellebrite, XRY, WinHex, FTK, and Autopsy.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience utilizing bash scripting and bash command lines on Ubuntu and RedHat Linux distributions.
  • Demonstrated experience with Storage system installation, design, and architecture in multi-petabyte environments.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting, patching, updating, managing Active Directory, and supporting the security posture of various instances of Windows operating systems.
  • Demonstrated experience installing, maintaining, and configuring Aspera Enterprise Server and Aspera P2P.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining, configuring, and administering Mongo Databases.
  • Demonstrated experience performing server installation, rack/capacity planning, facility/space management, and equipment commissioning/decommissioning.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining SOP documentation used by both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach digital forensics to large audiences of diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated experience creating, maintaining, and sharing curated work data.
  • Demonstrated experience providing aftercare support, such as integration support for previously installed software and programs.
  • Ability to work in a 24-hour, 7-day (on-call rotation) a week environment providing in-depth Tier 1 through Tier 3 level support.
Desired Experience
  • Demonstrated experience performing Tier 1 through Tier 3 support, including systems troubleshooting and incident tracking/management.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience serving as an Engineering Lead, coordinating, scheduling, deconflicting, and resolving conflicts between IT engineering projects.
  • Demonstrated experience using the Sponsor's digital forensic triage application.
