Tesla is looking for a highly motivated Mechanical development engineer to create, develop and scale up manufacturing processes for ourcutting-edgeTesla battery cell manufacturing line. This role will invent, develop, scale up andoptimizebattery manufacturing processes within a cross-functional engineering team responsible for the development lifecycle and launch into manufacturing. In this role, you will work closely with many organizations both internal and external to Tesla taking new battery designs frominitialconcept through into full production. The battery cell is a criticalcomponentin Tesla vehicles and storage systems. This role will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to our products. What You'll Do
- Drive development of new/innovative manufacturing processes from proof of concept through to full scale production that enable improved battery performance and/orcost
- Be an expert leader in the technical discussion and defineprocess and Equipmentdevelopment roadmap forCell assembly processes - Metal forming/ Dispensingbattery cell technology
- Work with internal and external teams to develop innovative process, product and equipment design solutionsto advancebattery performance and cell manufacturing
- Plan and ExecuteDoEsto characterize boundary conditions andoptimizeprocess for manufacturability andquality
- Develop and manage PFMEA, DFMEArisk assessments to prioritize process improvement projects and ensure adequate metrology and controls are in place
- Use tools like Minitab/JMP for data analysis and presentation of experimentaldata
- Establish process controls for SPC and develop process relatedOCAPs
- Lead product design for manufacturability (DFM), DFMEA and sustainability, including:
- Analysis of product design and identification of potential risks to the process
- Run CAE/CFD simulationsto theoretically understand /De-risk new process/Equipment design changes
What You'll Bring
- Degree or relevant experienceinMechanicalEngineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field
- 10+ years relevant experience in interdisciplinary/integrated engineering, process development, manufacturing engineering, or 5+ years inBattery R&D and Manufacturing in a commercial lithium-ion environment
- In-depth understanding and knowledge of lithium-ion battery technology including material selection, fabrication, and synthesis; new battery cell design, assembly, testing, and failure mode analysis.Hands-on experience with lithium-ion battery cell product development is a strong plus
- Experience with Metal forming/Stamping/dispensing applications ispreferred
- Evidence ofDeep understanding of engineering fundamentals and ability to apply them towards manufacturing processdevelopment
- Demonstrated capabilities in manufacturing process development for new products and Ability to transfer technologies from R&D into manufacturing isrequired
- Proven ability to successfully manage multiple projects and meet deliverable deadlines amidst changing requirements, deadlines, andpriorities
- Manufacturing process specification and evaluation experience

Expected Compensation
$80,000 - $174,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
