What to Expect
The Equipment Engineer is primarily responsible for the design of maintenance procedures, tooling retrofits, performance improvements, and deployment of new processes/equipment. The selected candidate assumes full ownership of specific equipment technologies and maintaining them for use with the highest standards of safety, quality, and output. Review and validate proposed designs from a mechanical perspective (loads, stress, rotating equipment, seal selection, etc.).
What You'll Do
- Prepare request for quote packages including project equipment specifications, data Sheets, vendor document requirement lists, Inspection Test Plans, FATs, Issue for Purchase Packages (rotating equipment, tanks, vessels, piping, skids)
- Prepare technical specification for enquiry/purchase and undertake technical review, Help review the proposals from technical viewpoint
- Develop construction strategy for modular units taking into consideration equipment arrival time, lifting/stacking strategy and mechanical considerations such as maximum loading, lift points, etc.
- Represent the single point of contact with the package vendor for engineering activities ensuring actions/timelines are being adhered to
- Liaise with the other engineering functions and coordinate cross-functional review of supplier drawings to facilitate integration of purchased equipment into the overall plant design compliant with engineering standards and the project scope requirements
- Participate in cross-functional package review meetings including P&ID review, HAZOP, layout review and model review
- Experience in purchasing equipment to NEMA SM23, IEEE 841, ASME PTC-10, ASME PTC 6 Codes & Standards
- Familiar with static equipment & heater API standards and ASME codes
- Review vendor calculation packages against applicable codes, standards contract documents and design basis. Comment/approve mechanical / structural design packages
- Provide technical support throughout the project construction and commissioning phases retaining overall technical responsibility for equipment until successful handover to the operations
What You'll Bring
- Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering with at least 8+ years of experience in an industrial plant (design (preferred), operations or reliability)
- In depth knowledge of rotating/packaged equipment (pumps, fans, seals, compressors) and electric motors
- Understand mechanical seal design and selection, foundation components (sole plates, base plates, grouting), and pump/driver selection and installation
- Experience in purchasing equipment to API 610, 611, 612, 613, 614, 616, 617, 618, 619, 682, 692, 671, 677, 673, 674, 675, 676, 685, 686, 541, 546 standards
- Understands how to interpret facility schematic drawings such as PFDs, P&IDs, and Equipment Layouts
- Through knowledge of ASME codes and API standards
- Thorough knowledge of discipline engineering techniques, the design of engineered systems, and engineering and design calculations
- Thorough understanding of the roles played by other departments on projects including construction practices and the economics involved
- Knowledge of precedents in the discipline and of principles and practices of related disciplines
