About the Job

This position is to provide support for laboratory analyses for the EPA Great Lakes Sediment Surveillance Project in the Organic Geochemistry, Sediment, and Isotope Geochemistry laboratories at the Large Lakes Observatory.

The candidate will assist with research funded through Minnesota Sea Grant. The project entails routine sampling from embayments within the St. Louis Estuary and aims to create a spatial and temporal map of cyanobacterial occurrence in estuary waters.

Job Tasks:

  • Sediment sample processing (freeze-drying, grinding)
  • Weighing sediment samples and preparing samples for EA-IRMS analysis
  • Cupric oxide analysis of lignin-phenol compounds within sediment samples
  • General laboratory cleanup duties as assigned, including glassware washing and combustion, lab cleanup, sample organization
  • Data analysis and processing
  • Producing figures and slides for presentations
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous research lab experience.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Rate: $20 per hour
