Computer Science Job Description
The Department of Computer Science at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (S&T) in Rolla, Missouri, is seeking applicants for a tenured associate professor in Computer Science. Priority will be given to candidates in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and algorithms/theory. Strong candidates in other areas can contribute to the department's current strength, such as theory, systems, and applications, including data science, cybersecurity, bioinformatics, cyber-human-physical systems, high-performance computing, pervasive and mobile computing, software engineering, and quantum computing, will also be considered. Applicants for the tenured faculty position should demonstrate excellence in research and in external funding, high-quality teaching, and service commensurate with the position level. The applicants for tenure-track faculty positions are expected to establish and maintain a high-quality research program, publish research results in top venues, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervise graduate and undergraduate research, and attract external funding to support their research activities. Competitive salary commensurate with the rank of the position and qualifications of the candidate will be offered. Missouri S&T's Department of Computer Science (CS) has a proud 50+ year history of positively impacting society through ground-breaking research and advancing the quality and breadth of its educational mission, granting an ABET-accredited BS, as well as MS and PhD degrees. The Department is home to over 20 faculty members with expertise spanning Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Cyber-Physical Systems, Networking, and Analytics, offering rich opportunities for collaboration and mentorship. An active recruitment strategy has resulted in the department now being one of the largest programs on campus, with over 700 undergraduate students and over 150 graduate students. Building on these strengths, the department is launching a new M.S. in Applied Artificial Intelligence (AI+X) for STEM students who want to integrate advanced AI methods into their disciplines. With emphasis on machine learning, neural networks, computer vision, and applied data science, the program equips graduates to develop impactful AI-driven solutions, advance innovation across industries, and address the rising demand for AI expertise alongside core computer science technologies. Nearly 1000 recruiters sought CS graduates during the last academic year, including multiple national labs with whom we have long-established hiring pipelines as well as funded research collaborations. The department has several successful and engaged alumni and is strongly supported by the Academy of CS, a 40-member organization dedicated to developing key programs of the department with financial support, and active engagement and advocacy.
