Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer will play a key role in supporting modernization initiatives by designing, developing, and maintaining data solutions that enable operational efficiency, scalability, and system interoperability. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in transforming complex datasets, integrating multiple systems, and building scalable pipelines while ensuring data quality and compliance. This role requires collaboration across technical and business teams to ensure data solutions meet organizational goals.
Maintain and enhance XML schemas to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance with evolving business and technical requirements
- Develop and implement comprehensive data mappings, cleansing, and transformation rules to support integration and migration initiatives
- Conduct data profiling, assessments, and quality checks to ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness
- Perform systems analysis and design, solution concepts, engineering design, and interface definitions to support modernization projects
- Analyze business requests for new services and develop innovative technical solutions to address evolving data requirements
- Author comprehensive project documentation including System Design and Specification Reports (SDSR), Interface Control Documents (ICD), and design coordination materials
- Architect and design critical data components that enhance scalability, performance, and operational efficiency
- Design and build APIs and system interfaces using Java to connect multiple data sources and applications
- Design and implement data marts using DynamoDB and Databricks, ensuring consistent performance and adherence to SLAs
- Define input/output parameters, JSON payloads, and error-handling logic for APIs, including support for Swagger/OpenAPI specifications
- Support data engineering efforts to develop document-based database schemas, including data dictionaries, transformation logic, and mapping documentation
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data solutions align with enterprise standards and business objectives
- Ensure adherence to data governance, security, and compliance standards
- Build scalable solutions to connect legacy and modern platforms, supporting system modernization efforts
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 12 years with BS/BA.
- Expertise in data analysis, mapping, and large-scale transformation initiatives
- Knowledge of API development, interface design, and system interoperability
- Hands-on experience with modern data platforms (e.g., DynamoDB, Databricks, or similar)
- Proficiency with APIs, JSON, and Swagger/OpenAPI specifications
- Familiarity with developing and maintaining document-based databases
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to translate business needs into technical solutions
- Strong written communication skills for authoring technical documentation
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) with at least three consecutive years of U.S. residency from the date of legal entry as an LPR
- Must be able to obtain and maintain the required MBI clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in data engineering, database design, and systems analysis
- Experience with data modeling standards (e.g., UML, ERD)
- Exposure to big data frameworks (e.g., Databricks)
- Experience in legacy system modernization or migration projects
- Active MBI Clearance

Target Salary Range
$135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
