Job Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Admission and Financial Aid, and collaborating with the Admissions and Financial Aid team, responsible for supervision, outreach, recruiting and admissions. Particular emphasis targeted on recruitment and yield of students at California colleges and universities, with special focus on University of California and California State University campuses.
The Senior Director of Admissions is a technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in admissions and recognized expertise in the School of Law J.D. program admissions, UC admissions processes and Principles of Community; problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues/problems without precedent and/or structure. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Responsible for overall recruitment strategy, relationship management and meeting enrollment targets for the School of Law J.D. program; responsible for assisting in mentoring and coaching Admissions Coordinator for tactical recruitment plans, and for change initiatives, process improvement. This candidate will drive strategy development and implementation, pulling resources across the campus to bring in high-caliber cohorts of students. Build and foster relationships with pre-law advisors, faculty and student organizations on those campuses with a goal to encourage applications and yield to the School of Law J.D. program. Represents admissions at off-site events. The position will also be the core program liaison with Marketing and Communications team to generate compelling messages and influence strategy and tactics. In addition, provide comprehensive, in-depth Law School J.D. program information through individual counseling meetings, group information sessions, admissions workshops, webinars and panel discussions to a diverse population of potential students. Support applicant processing, review J.D. applications and exercise independent judgment in making recommendations for admission to the Assistant Dean and Admission Committee. Convert Law School J.D. prospects into applicants and admits into enrolls. Provide high-level administrative support for admissions events, activities and programs. In the absence of the Assistant Dean , the Senior Director will serve as lead for the Office. - J.D. or professional or graduate degree, or experience with law through practice, education, or professional experience.
- Experience providing outreach to participants preparing for and applying to law school, or other graduate or professional school.
- Experience using writing, editing and proofreading skills to quickly and accurately produce emails, letters, memos, reports, etc.
- Experience handling challenging, sensitive and/or confidential issues with student groups, persons of varying ages and ethnic backgrounds, special interest groups, organizations, employers and company representatives, alumni, campus staff, faculty, the public, and others.
- Project management and organizational skills to manage and deliver complex projects and programs on time and on budget, and using initiative to prioritize, exercise independent judgment, and to develop and implement solutions.
- Interpersonal, communication and public presentation skills to interact and communicate effectively with diverse groups from a range of social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds. Analytical skills to prepare statistical reports and analyze a variety of data and processing systems. Computer skills using Windows based software, Microsoft Office suite, desktop publishing, graphics and database applications.

- Familiarity with UNITE and/or other Admissions software, Adobe Acrobat.
- Professional demeanor, attitude and attire and ability to adapt quickly and attend to multiple tasks in a busy, fast-paced office.

Department Overview The School of Law Admission and Financial Aid Office is responsible for outreach, recruitment, evaluation, and enrollment of top-quality students from a diverse pool of approximately 3,000 applicants. The School of Law offers a three-year curriculum in the study of law (Juris Doctor) and a one-year post-Juris Doctor curriculum (LL.M.) for a student body of approximately 590 degree-seeking candidates, 50+ faculty and lecturers, 70+ staff members, and 3 facilities assigned to the School of Law.
