Position Overview
The University of Kansas (KU) Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) seeks outstanding individuals for a full time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Radar Systems and Remote Sensing. Successful candidates will have research that demonstrates strong potential for collaboration with existing faculty and complements the department's current strengths. We are particularly interested in exceptional individuals with expertise in areas such as hardware prototyping; advanced concepts (e.g. MIMO, agile waveforms); high level system design; miniaturization (optimizing Size Weight and Power SWaP); radar signal processing in both real-time and post product generation; remote sensing application and backscatter analysis; system-level characterization, predictive performance analysis, trade studies, and system-of-systems engineering; radar tracking & fusion; high-power systems, components, and RF/analog/digital interface requirements and design; clutter/interference cancellation (e.g. STAP); digital array design and concepts (dual-polarized, conformal, multi-band, ultra-wideband, reconfigurable, calibration); radar spectrum engineering & sharing; software-defined RF systems (RF-SoC, SDR) for real-time/cognitive sensing; propagation, clutter, radar cross-section, nonlinear RF simulation & modeling; complex waveform design; shipboard/airborne (including unmanned vehicles)/space-based radar; networked and distributed concepts; imaging & target identification; cognitive sensing; synthetic aperture systems (SAR/ISAR/InSAR); moving target indication (GMTI/AMTI/DMTI) systems; ground/foliage/obscurant penetration; sense-thru-the-wall; collision avoidance; multi-function concepts (e.g. dual-function radar/comm), millimeter-wave systems; and/or spectrum/electronic warfare, electronic protection, electronic support. The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. by the effective date of appointment. Experience with ITAR/export controlled and/or classified research for the US government is preferred.

EECS is the largest department in the KU School of Engineering with 42 faculty members and a research volume of over $13 million per year. Faculty engage in research projects across multiple areas of interest through the department, the Institute for Information Sciences (I2S), the Center for Remote Sensing and Integrated Systems (CReSIS), and the KU Medical Center. The EECS department offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, cybersecurity engineering, and applied computing. The department has approximately 1,100 undergraduate and 300 graduate students.

40% Teaching - Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department. Participate in undergraduate and graduate student academic advising. Mentor graduate students in research and serve as the major advisor and chair of Master's and Doctoral level thesis committees.

40% Research - Perform and conduct research in the research centers/laboratories associated with the department. Establish a strong research agenda in areas of expertise that overlaps, supports, or expands the current research in the department, leading to external grant support and publication in recognized refereed journals and conference proceedings. Collaborate with faculty and professional staff on KU campuses.

20% Service - Perform Department, School, University and professional service activities normally expected of university faculty commensurate with rank. Participating in local, national and international professional conferences and other activities appropriate to the discipline. Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.

Required Qualifications
  1. Earned doctorate, or equivalent, in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a closely related scientific or engineering discipline by the time of appointment.
  2. Demonstrated potential for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses at the university level.
  3. Expertise in broad areas of radar and remote sensing, including, but not limited to: system engineering, hardware prototyping, miniaturization, signal processing, software-defined RF systems, high-power systems, synthetic aperture systems, and spectrum engineering and sharing.
