Cox Automotive is seeking a motivated Electrical Engineer I to join our Lab R&D team focused on electric vehicle (EV) battery servicing technologies. This entry-level role involves designing, testing, and building electronic systems and prototypes, with hands-on work in both lab and production environments. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to support innovation in EV battery diagnostics and instrumentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gains familiarity with Electrical Engineering concepts, practices, and methodologies.
  • With guidance, performs or assists with aa variety of electrical engineering responsibilities, including:
    • Design and test electrical circuits for EV battery measurement and diagnostics.
    • Build and modify electronic prototypes in collaboration with the E-lab production team.
    • Create and maintain documentation for wiring harnesses and electrical diagrams.
    • Perform hardware and firmware testing, debugging, and validation.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as 4 years' experience in a related field.
  • Experience with schematic capture and multilayer PCB design.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience (internships or graduate-level projects may qualify).
  • Proficiency in hand soldering (PTH and SMT).
  • Skilled in using test equipment (oscilloscopes, function generators, multimeters, etc.).
  • Experience programming embedded devices in C++.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, email communication, and technical documentation tools (Word or LaTeX).
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Familiarity with Cadsoft Eagle or Kicad.
  • Knowledge of IPC-2221A board design standards.
  • Experience with communication protocols such as CAN bus and RS-485.
  • Background in power electronics and mixed-signal circuit design.
  • Exposure to industrial instrumentation and automation systems.
  • Hands-on experience with machine shop tools (lathe, mill, bandsaw).
  • Experience with AVR microcontrollers and impedance spectroscopy.
  • Understanding of lithium battery technologies.


Working Environment

This role involves work in both office and manufacturing settings. Physical activity may include standing, bending, lifting, and operating equipment. Safety gear such as protective eyewear, hearing protection, and footwear is required.

USD 65,500.00 - 98,300.00 per year

Compensation:

Compensation includes a base salary of $65,500.00 - $98,300.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.

Benefits:

The Company offers eligible employees the flexibility to take as much vacation with pay as they deem consistent with their duties, the company's needs, and its obligations; seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year; and up to 160 hours of paid wellness annually for their own wellness or that of family members.
