CMMC Consultant
6-12 month contract, Hybrid in Natick, MA The CMMC Consultant will serve as the subject matter expert for all CMMC-related initiatives. This individual will assess current practices, identify gaps, and develop/implement strategies to achieve and maintain compliance with CMMC Level 2 (and beyond, if applicable). The role will require close collaboration with IT, security, operations, and executive leadership to ensure compliance is embedded across the organization. Key Responsibilities: Lead CMMC readiness and certification efforts. Conduct gap analyses against NIST 800-171 and CMMC requirements. Develop and maintain System Security Plans (SSPs), Plans of Action & Milestones (POA&Ms), and other required documentation. Advise on technical and administrative controls necessary for compliance. Coordinate with IT and security teams to implement secure configurations, access controls, logging/monitoring, and incident response processes. Support internal audits, readiness reviews, and facilitate third-party (C3PAO) assessments. Provide training and awareness to staff on CMMC-related responsibilities. Stay up to date with evolving CMMC, DFARS, and DoD cybersecurity requirements and advise leadership on impacts. Work with primes, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure alignment with compliance obligations. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Information Security, Information Systems, or related field; Master's preferred. Deep knowledge of CMMC framework, NIST SP 800-171, DFARS 252.204-7012/7019/7020/7021 requirements. 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity, compliance, or IT governance. Previous experience guiding an organization through CMMC or similar DoD compliance programs strongly preferred. Familiarity with IT/OT environments, cloud systems, and aerospace/defense industry requirements. Excellent communication and project management skills.
