Lead Engineer, Modernized Software Baseline (C)

Job Summary:

The Lead Engineer, Modernized Software Baseline, is responsible for the technical leadership, architecture, and hands-on engineering of the modernized C2SET software baseline. This role is central to the design, development, integration, and sustainment of advanced modeling and simulation (M&S) capabilities, including the implementation of new models, frameworks, and architectures (e.g., AFSIM, MSSV, WebUMC) to meet evolving Air Force and Joint operational training requirements. The Lead Engineer will work closely with the Government PM, technical, test, and fielding teams to ensure the modernized baseline meets all technical, operational, and security objectives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Design and architect model behaviors to represent operationally relevant capabilities in AFSIM or other M&S frameworks.
• Lead the development, integration, and sustainment of the modernized C2SET software baseline, including new simulation engines, frameworks, and supporting tools.
• Oversee the migration and modernization of legacy models and systems into the new baseline, ensuring interoperability and compliance with Air Force and Joint requirements.
• Guide the implementation of modern software engineering practices, including Agile development, DevSecOps, and full stack development.
• Develop in C++, AFSIM, Python, web services, and other necessary languages and technologies.
• Integrate new and existing models, simulation engines, and frameworks (e.g., AFSIM, AWSIM, ABS, MSSV, WebUMC) into the modernized baseline.
• Ensure compatibility and integration with cloud-based services (e.g., AWS, Azure) and RESTful architectures.
• Support the development and integration of new features, algorithms, and simulation capabilities as required by evolving mission needs.
• Apply at least 2 years of experience in military planning, operations, and wargaming to ensure the modernized baseline meets operational training requirements.
• Provide technical expertise in simulation training at various levels, particularly with Air Operations Centers (AOCs).
• Ensure the modernized baseline supports operational sustainment, improvement, and migration of software code and functionality.
• Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement.
• Work closely with Government and contractor teams, including participation in sprint planning, reviews, and Agile ceremonies.
• Support knowledge transfer, transition-in, and transition-out activities as required by the contract.
• Ensure compliance with all security, information assurance, and cybersecurity requirements, including DoD RMF and NIST standards.

Minimum & Desired Requirements:

• At least 7 years of relevant experience developing in C++, AFSIM, Python, web services, and other necessary languages.
• Experience working with cloud-based services (e.g., AWS, Azure) and/or RESTful architectures.
• At least 2 years of experience in military planning, operations, and wargaming.
• Demonstrated experience designing and architecting model behaviors in AFSIM or other M&S frameworks.
• Security+ CE certification, desired.
• Linux+ certification, desired.

Security Clearance:

• DoD Active TOP SECRET Level Clearance Required.

Travel Requirement:

• 33-50%, CONUS and OCONUS
