Job Overview

The Multi-Store Investigator proactively identifies organized retail crime (ORC) activity and trends, develops strategies to reduce organized retail criminal activity against Macy's, and performs other duties as assigned.

What You Will Do



  • Lead, manage, and coordinate investigations into Organized Criminal Activity in consultation with the Senior, ORC Investigations.
  • Utilize field surveillance tactics to develop and validate ORC investigations involving persons and establishments of interest.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
  • Collect, analyze, and monitor intelligence through networking with state and local ORC associations, as well as online tools and resources.
  • Identify criminal trends and patterns to develop investigative leads.
  • Gather local intelligence from criminal entities, law enforcement, and retail partners.
  • Support Supply Chain investigations, particularly related to cargo theft and organized theft rings impacting facilities.
  • Identify and implement strategies to reduce criminal activity.
  • Lead Multi-Store Taskforce detective teams in response to emerging theft trends and loss data.
  • Hire, train, and develop Multi-Store Taskforce detective teams, if applicable.
  • Prepare and communicate major investigations to senior leadership.
  • Provide testimony in criminal, civil, or administrative proceedings on behalf of the company.
  • Provide direction and follow-up on all aspects of court-ordered restitution and pursue other financial recovery aspects, including Gift Cards and Seizures.
  • Coordinate and cooperate with law enforcement agencies (federal, state, local) and prosecuting attorney's offices in directing investigations and presenting cases for prosecution.
  • Network with retail counterparts to collaborate and further active investigations by expanding loss impact.
  • Provide analytical and statistical ORC theft data to Senior ORC Investigator and Director to educate senior leadership and further legislative reform.
  • Effectively educate and communicate criminal trends causing loss to our stores.
  • Conduct training at the store level on ORC trends, indicators, and solutions.
  • Maintain a communication network facilitating the flow of investigative information pertaining to e-Commerce fencing of stolen goods.
  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance, and punctuality.


Skills You Will Need

Investigative Skills: Ability to lead, manage, and coordinate investigations into Organized Criminal Activity, utilizing field surveillance tactics and gathering intelligence effectively.

Relationship Building: Developing and maintaining positive relationships with law enforcement agencies, retail partners, and other stakeholders to facilitate cooperation and information sharing.

Analytical Abilities: Proficiency in collecting, analyzing, and monitoring intelligence to identify criminal trends and patterns, as well as to provide analytical and statistical data for decision-making and legislative reform.

Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective communication and sharing of information with diverse groups of stakeholders, including senior leadership, law enforcement, and retail counterparts.

Adaptability: Resourcefulness and ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities, working well both independently and as part of a team.

Educational and Training Abilities: Ability to effectively educate and communicate criminal trends causing loss to stores, as well as conducting training at the store level on ORC trends, indicators, and solutions.

  • Candidates with a High School diploma or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. 1-3 years of investigative experience.
  • This position requires heavy lifting, constant moving, standing, and reaching with arms and hands. Involves standing for at least two consecutive hours, lifting at least 30 lbs. stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders. May involve reaching above eye level. Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Able to sustain extended periods of CCTV and/or PC screens to facilitate surveillance or analysis.
  • Position requires regular physical presence in Macy's store locations, with an opportunity for remote work, when needed.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on department and company needs.
  • Able to travel within division/market of responsibility with periodic need to travel overnight based on the needs of the business.
