Kleinschmidt has a full-time opening for a Hydrology and Hydraulics Staff Engineer in any of our office locations. Our flexibility and core value of relationships allow us to offer employees the opportunity to work in a hybrid environment including working from the office and remotely.

Salary: $65,000 - $80,000/year (based on experience)

Who You Are

An Engineer with a B.S. in Civil Engineering in an ABET accredited curriculum.

Knowledgeable: Knowledge of hydrology & hydraulics (H&H) discipline-specific engineering principles and ability to apply to projects is required. Direct project experience completing H&H project tasks, including open channel flow and/or pressurized conveyance calculations is preferred. Specific tasks could be related to floodplain management, dam breach and hazard assessments, dam decommissioning or removal, stream restoration, and/or fish passage engineering.

Experienced: 1-2 years' experience in Civil Engineering and an Engineer In Training (EIT) certification is preferred. Direct project experience using H&H modeling software, including HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, or SRH-2D. Experience with ArcGIS or AutoCAD Civil 3D (or similar CAD software). Experience using CFD modeling software, such as FLOW-3D or Star-CCM+. Land Survey/RTK experience all preferred.

  • Must be willing to travel and possess a valid driver's license.


About the Position

In this role you will work directly with mid-level and senior staff on all stages of project delivery from conceptual designs to issued for bid construction drawings. Project work will require close collaboration with scientists, data analysts, engineers, and licensing experts to develop innovative solutions that support renewable energy projects. Through these projects you will have the opportunity to gain specialized expertise in H&H engineering, including floodplain management, dam breach and hazard assessments, dam decommissioning or removal, hydropower feasibility, and/or fish passage engineering. The scope and scale of projects at Kleinschmidt will engage your curiosity and facilitate professional growth. Project work will include site visits, field data collection, engineering calculations and analysis, design using H&H modeling software, spatial analysis or data processing in GIS, review and application of hydraulic modeling results, technical writing of reports, and participation in meetings with clients and other stakeholders. It is strongly preferred that the applicant can work out of one of our company offices but remote applicants with relevant experience will be considered
