POSITION SPECIFICS

Penn State Hazleton is seeking a dynamic and student-centered leader for the position of Associate Director of Student Services and Engagement. This position focuses on the leadership and oversight of the campus residential living community and the development of meaningful co-curricular engagement opportunities. The Associate Director plays an essential role in advancing the mission and vision of the department.
This position focuses on the day-to-day management of operations for each of the above areas within student services and engagement, as well as serving as the liaison and primary contact for these areas to students, parents, faculty, staff, and other campus and Penn State University Commonwealth System stakeholders. The mission of Student Services and Engagement is to encourage holistic growth and development, support the diverse needs of our students, and enhance their academic pursuits while promoting inclusion and citizenship in the global environment.
Reporting to the Director of Student Services and Engagement, the Associate Director is responsible for the following:
  • Direct oversight of the residential living program
  • Directs the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a residential living curriculum
  • The position has a 24/7 responsibility for the welfare and living-learning experiences of students; manages crisis situations
  • Interprets and enforces University and residence hall policies/procedures
  • Management of the Student Accountability and Conflict Response process (student conduct); serves as the campus designee/liaison
  • Hiring, supervision, and development of two (2) professional staff members, one (1) part-time administrative assistant, and residential assistants (RAs)
  • Oversees budget and expenditures for residence life and student activities
  • Provide leadership and oversight for student engagement efforts, including activities, clubs, and organizations; design, promote, implement, and evaluate a co-curricular program that reflects the interests and needs of a broad student population
  • Team leader in developing Welcome Weekend activities; oversees Welcome Leaders and serves as the point person from Student Services and Engagement to collaborate with Academic Advising for the New Student Orientation process
  • Provide leadership for student-focused initiatives; oversee the Center for Multicultural Engagement and Programming
  • Liaison with international students and initiatives
  • Serve as a campus contract signatory for event programming
  • Liaison with residence life constituents at University Park
  • Serves on campus-wide selected committees and represents residence life/student engagement at special campus events, including admissions-related events

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Master's Degree 6+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment Visa. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $51,000.00 - $74,000.00.
