The Police Officer serves as a law enforcement officer at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and functions with full arrest powers under the general supervision of a Police Sergeant. The principal duties of a Police Officer are to provide for the personal safety of all persons on campus and ensure a peaceful environment in which the academic pursuits of the University can be realized, prevent and detect criminal activity and to apprehend those involved in such activity. Many additional services are provided to students, faculty, staff and the community. This is a night shift, full-time, non-exempt university staff position with expected continuous employment. A one-year probationary period will be required.

Reports To: The Police Officer will report to the Police Sergeant

Full Time Pay Range:
* Commensurate with qualifications and experience
* $29.86-$38.73 for LESB certified officers

Key Job Responsibilities
* Patrol university buildings and grounds, residence halls and adjacent property via squad car and on foot
* Enforce state statutes, administrative code, campus and residence hall policies
* Provide emergency first aid
* Investigate complaints and interview witnesses

Qualifications
* U.S. Citizen
* 21 years of age
* Successfully completed a minimum of 60 college credits
* Possess a valid driver license and good driving record
* No criminal history
* Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board (LESB) certification is a requirement or actively enrolled in the WI Law Enforcement Academy.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in a higher education environment and experience working with diverse multicultural populations.
The UW-Parkside Police Department provides 24/7 police and dispatch service to approximately 5000 students and staff on a 700-acre campus. The department employs a community policing approach and focuses on student success and safety.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Performs preliminary and follow-up investigations to solve crimes, identify suspects and victims, apprehend criminals, and document case information
  • Provides personal safety and crime prevention education to institutional community
  • Engages in problem solving, threat mitigation, and conflict resolution for a wide range of issues and incidents involving citizens, groups, campus entities, government agencies, businesses, leaders, and others
  • Provides protection of life, property, and the preservation of peace and good order and provides emergency aid to the institutional community
  • Ensures the safe and orderly flow of traffic on institutional roadways and enforces traffic laws
