Pay Range

$11,970 - $16,998 Monthly

Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.


Job Description

You will

  • Provide expertise in one or more of the following areas: Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, Engineering, Nuclear Science.
  • Participate in activities as appropriate to provide and gain exposure to the Laboratory.
  • Collaborate with scientists in a multidisciplinary, cross-functional team environment to accomplish research goals.
  • Pursue independent but complementary research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists internally and externally to the Laboratory.
  • Document research, publish papers in high-impact peer-reviewed scientific journals, and present results within the DOE community and at conferences.
  • Maintain and establish laboratory protocols, including adherence to safety and security protocols.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
  • PhD in relevant scientific field or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Must be a continuing faculty member at an accredited research institution.
  • Broad expertise in high-temperature materials and experiments, thermodynamics, and materials characterization, including diffraction physics.
  • Expertise and demonstrated experience in materials design and development for extreme conditions (e.g., nuclear fusion/fission reactors, space applications).
  • Demonstrated creativity, exceptional ability, and proven accomplishments in applicant's area of specialization.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and present and explain technical information and provide advice to management.
  • Demonstrated initiative and interpersonal skills and ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Qualifications we desire:

  • Significant experience with processing and characterization of metals and ceramics.
  • Expertise with CALPHAD and phase equilibria.
  • Experience working with actinide materials.

Security Clearance

None required. However, this position involves U.S. Export Control; this work must be performed by a U.S. person (U.S. citizen, U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. national, or U.S. protected individual (e.g., refugee, asylee)).
