Position Description:

The University of Iowa Healthcare Department of Surgery, Division of Acute Care Surgery, invites applications for a faculty position in the Burn Treatment Center, specializing in Burn Surgery. This position offers a unique opportunity for individuals pursuing an academic career in Burn Surgery, with an appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor on either the clinical or tenure track, depending on experience and research interests.

The selected candidate will be appointed to Iowa's only certified burn center, one of only 77 in the United States. They will join a high-volume practice alongside three fellowship-trained surgeons, collaborating within a multidisciplinary burn team in a collegial and supportive environment.

We seek candidates who are committed to academic excellence, research, and education. The successful applicant will have opportunities to engage in clinical research, translational science, and/or health services research, with access to robust institutional resources and mentorship to support their academic development.

Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any misconduct history or pending research misconduct investigation including but not limited to sexual misconduct in prior employment and provide a related release and will be subject to a criminal background and credential check.

Education Requirement:


  • MD, DO, or an equivalent degree.
  • Completed training in all phases of General Surgery.
  • Board eligibility/certification from the American Board of Surgery.
  • Completion of a fellowship in Burn Surgery.


Required Qualifications:


  • Professional job-related experience fostering or promoting a welcoming and respectful work/academic environment where people of all backgrounds and perspectives feel welcomed and appreciated; or demonstrated the ability to do so.
  • Candidates on the tenure track must have experience in research at a level that enables procurement of external funding.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing performance improvement and providing multi-disciplinary care.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching, research, and clinical excellence is required.


Desirable Qualifications:


  • Applicants with established research are highly desired.
  • Board eligibility/certification in Surgical Critical Care.
