  • Assistant or Associate Professor on the Clinical Track




BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:





  • To conduct and assist program faculty with program evaluation as needed with for the clinical and didactic curriculum, including recruitment, admissions, and development, delivery; teaching; and clinical education components of the curriculum. Duties will be tailored based on total FTE commitment to the program.




CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES:





  • Participate in the evaluation of the curriculum



    • Assist the program in implementing, documenting, and evaluating the program consistent with maintenance of national accreditation, including active participation in the accreditation process.
    • Undertake data gathering and/or analysis for special projects or needs assessments as directed by the PD or DEO.
    • Evaluate current assessment processes and modify as needed.
    • Participate in research or other scholarly activities




  • Participate as needed in the didactic and clinical curriculum as needed, including but not limited to:



    • Teaching/assisting with the curriculum
    • Serve as a faculty advisor for students enrolled in the PA Program.
    • Potentially serve as a clinician mentor or small group facilitator to PA and medical students enrolled in the PA/MD combined curriculum.




  • Participate in program administration activities as schedule allows:



    • Participate in program recruitment activities
    • Participate in the program's public relations activities
    • Participate in the program admissions process, including serving as a member of the program's admissions committee
    • Serve as a member of the programs advisory committee
    • Serve as a member of the program's promotions committee




  • Participate in patient care as a physician assistant (desirable).



    • Be actively involved in the practice of medicine as a PA




  • Assist the program director and core faculty with other duties as assigned.




SUPERVISION RECEIVED:





  • Direct supervision will be received from the Program Director and/or Department Executive Officer (DEO)




SUPERVISION EXERCISED:





  • Administrative and functional supervision may be exercised over support staff as determined by the Program Director or Department Executive Officer.

Education Requirement:


  • Masters' degree is required, Doctoral degree preferred from an accredited college or university.




Required Qualifications:


  • Graduate of an Accredited PA Program or LCME-accredited Medical School
  • Eligibility for PA/MD licensure in Iowa


Certifications:


  • For all Physician Assistant applicants, a NCCPA Certification is required.


Desirable Qualifications:


  • Previous clinical experience practicing medicine as a PA or MD
  • Previous PA program faculty experience and/or classroom education experience
  • Previous clinical education experience with PA or other health professional students
  • Previous experience authoring clinical or professional topics
  • Previous experience with assessment/evaluation/research in educational/clinical setting
  • Demonstrated outstanding abilities and skills in teaching, scholarship, and/or clinical practice.
  • Desire to foster student learning, development, and decision making in support of department goals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that enable rapport with unique faculty, staff, and student populations.
