Daikin Applied is seeking a Mechanical Engineer. The Mechanical Engineer will support the continued success and reliability of our compressor product lines. In this role, you will be responsible for lifecycle support of fielded products, driving design improvements, managing obsolescence, resolving field issues, and supporting manufacturing and service teams. The ideal candidate will have some experience with high-speed rotating equipment and a good understanding of sustaining product performance throughout the lifecycle. Location: Staunton, VA - Onsite
What you will do:
Support for legacy and current compressor products
Investigate and resolve field issues, including performance degradation, reliability concerns and material failures
Drive root cause analysis and implement corrective actions using structured problem-solving methods
Evaluate and qualify alternate components or suppliers due to obsolescence, cost reduction, or quality initiatives
Support changes in manufacturing processes and ensure product configuration control
Interface with cross-functional teams including Quality, Service, Supply Chain and Manufacturing to address technical challenges
Maintain product documentation and support Engineering Change Requests (ECRs/ECOs)
Identify opportunities for product improvement and cost optimization while maintaining functional integrity
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
2+ years of mechanical engineering experience in product development and/or sustaining role for rotating machinery or HVACR systems
Good understanding of high-speed rotating products and equipment operation, components, and failure modes
Proficient in 3D CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, Creo) and engineering analysis tools
Experience with root cause analysis, field support and product lifecycle management
Strong communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree
4+ years of mechanical engineering experience in product development and/or sustaining role for rotating machinery or HVACR systems
Experience with PLM systems and change management processes
Familiarity with ASME, ISO, and AHRI standards related to HVACR equipment
Knowledge of materials, coatings, and corrosion-resistant design
Experience supporting global manufacturing and supply chain teams
Exposure to Six Sigma, Lean, or reliability-centered maintenance practices

The typical annual base salary for this position ranges from $74,200-$120,700 in Virginia. The range displayed represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade in which this position falls.
