Open Date Sep 04, 2025 Description The Department of Theater at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, invites applications for a full-time tenure-line faculty position in Directing and Acting at any rank (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor). We seek a colleague who will bring experience, conceptual rigor, experimentation, and vision to our program. Applicants should have demonstrated knowledge and experience in a diversity of cultural forms. We particularly welcome applicants with expertise and interest in theater of the Global Majority. The person in this position will teach Directing and Acting classes, direct one mainstage production each year, mentor student directors, and participate in the administration of the department and the production program. The Theater Department provides students with a distinguished, challenging, and integrated course of study in theater's history, literature, theory, and practice, both in the classroom and in production. We address technical, aesthetic, and social issues in both historical and contemporary contexts, with an intentional focus on global communities. Qualified candidates should demonstrate a commitment to educating the next generation of theater makers and storytellers and fostering collaborative thinking and creativity. They should show active interest in academic program-building, classroom teaching, mentoring student directors, and directing department productions. They should possess leadership capability, including the ability to mentor and support faculty, develop curricula, construct syllabi, and assess student learning. The desire to collaborate with a creative team, production staff, and students is essential. Finally, they should have a demonstrated commitment to supporting the needs of a demographically diverse student body and production staff. Qualifications Applicants must have an MFA or equivalent professional experience in the arts, a demonstrated commitment to teaching, skilled knowledge of all aspects of directing and acting, and significant professional achievement in the field.
