What to Expect

Tesla is seeking a Technical Writer to join the Tesla Energy Team in Hayward, CA. You will create technical content for service teams that will shape the future of energy storage and renewables. Successful energy products require high uptime and reliability. You will be instrumental in enabling this through accurate, streamlined documentation that allows service technicians to meet Tesla's standards.

As the bridge between global technicians and the larger-scale, global service network, you will need to develop a strong understanding of how Tesla's energy products work. By using in-house tools, partnering with engineers from service, quality, and design, and working collaboratively with diagnostics, training, technical operations, and other teams, you will contribute to the growth and acceleration of Megapacks and Superchargers.

What You'll Do
  • Collaborate with various engineering and quality teams to gather technical information.
  • Understand technical problems and communicate them effectively to non-technical people
  • Validate information for accuracy and use a routing and review process for document approval
  • Edit content according to a style guide and enforce organization standards
  • Manage tasks and information flow using collaboration software (such as JIRA, SharePoint, and custom databases)
  • Comprehend system operation from engineering documentation from both a software and mechanical perspective (e.g., schematics and subsystem specification documents)
  • Communicate and collaborate with subject matter experts (engineers, technicians, and product managers) to build strong working relationships

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in English, Technical/Professional Writing, Communications, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of Technical Writing experience in a high-tech environment collaborating with technical subject matter experts, or in a similar product-focused role
  • Cheerful outlook and flexibility toward frequent change and inevitable mid-project priority modifications
  • Ability with industry-standard authoring and content creation tools (Word, Oxygen XML Editor, Confluence, Illustrator)
  • Experience with HTML, XML, DITA, Markdown, Git, SQL, and/or Python
  • Ability to project-manage multiple documentation projects/initiatives to ensure that priorities are addressed, and processes are followed
  • Experience creating visual content that directly goes with text within documents, such as taking photographs and editing them to include callouts and zoom-ins, and/or pulling images from engineering databases
