What to Expect

Consider before submitting an application:

This position is expected to start around January 2026 and continue through the Winter/Spring term (approximately April 2026) or into Summer 2026 if available and there is an opportunity to do so. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year. to experience life at Tesla by giving them ownership over projects that are critical to their team's success.

About the Team

As an Intern onthe Motor Controls team, you will model, design, implement,testand benchmark the motor controls of current and future Tesla traction motor drives and low voltage drives.You'llhave the opportunity to develop motor control algorithms that will enhance the performance of impactful technologies, such as traction machines,steer-by-wire systems, and Optimus, driving advancements in efficiency and innovation.


What You'll Do
  • Help define requirements for motor control software and interfacing hardware components including voltage and current sensors, power stages, speed sensors
  • Understand, drive design of, and implement motor controller functionality, behaviors, and algorithms
  • Develop, test, andvalidatemotor control algorithms in the laboratory and in-vehicle
  • Advance Tesla Motors intellectual property in electric motor design and motor controls

What You'll Bring
  • Currently pursuing a Master's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field with a graduation date between April 2026 - December 2026
  • Strong fundamentals of AC electric motors and drive systems analysis,modelingand control
  • Solid background in linear systems analysis, stability, and controller design
  • Basicproficiencywith embedded firmware development in C/C++
  • Model development and data analysis in Matlab/Simulink
  • Strong communicationand preference for working in teams

    Expected Compensation
    $40.10 - $56.13/hour + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
