HDR is seeking an enthusiastic, beginner-to-mid level GIS Analyst to join our growing team in South Carolina. The candidate would help develop and implement geospatial solutions for a wide variety of clients and market sectors and work in a professional environment with multi-disciplinary engineering and environmental sciences teams. The ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds (both technical and non-technical) is required. Ideal candidates must have a solid understanding of geographic fundamentals, expertise in geodatabase design, proficiency in spatial analysis, and the ability to thoughtfully design cartographic products to support projects. We are interested in someone who is passionate and self-motivated, with a strong desire to research, learn, and grow as a GIS professional, as well as somebody who can solve problems to help achieve the best outcomes for our clients. Successful candidates will implement geospatial solutions for desktop, web, and mobile platforms.
In the role of GIS Analyst, we'll count on you to:
- Support GIS tasks for multidisciplinary projects
- Mentor other GIS professionals
- Participate in project marketing, budget development and resource scheduling
- Design and produce cartographic products for various purposes
- Independently conduct advanced spatial analyses using ArcGIS and other tools
- Support field data collection using ArcGIS Online apps and associated data management
- Develop vector and raster spatial analysis models
- Support CAD-GIS workflows
- Develop geodatabase schemas and analysis methods needed to support project goals
- Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficient in mobile data collection methods
- Esri certifications
- GISP certification
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, effective time management, ability to work and learn independently or with a team.
- Experience in software development using Python, C++, C#, JavaScript, HTML or other appropriate programming environment is a plus.
- Experience applying a set of criteria to datasets for siting alternative analysis
- Develop geodatabase schemas and analysis methods needed to support project goals
- Experience with GIS data conversions for AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation software a plus
- Experience in the query and acquisition of publicly available authoritative datasets and GIS services
- Experience within the electrical power industry, oil and gas or water utilities is a plus
- Must have a collaborative team attitude, and strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to support project marketing, budget development, and support project goals with project managers.
- Must be able to meet tight deadlines while ensuring data integrity
- Must have the ability to interact with diverse teams in a positive and proactive manner.
- Local candidates preferred
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Geography, Planning, Engineering, Natural Sciences, or closely related field
- A minimum of 3 years of practical GIS experience; an advanced degree in relevant field may offset the required years of experience
- Proficient in use of ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS extensions e.g., 3D Analyst, Spatial Analyst
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft 365 Apps
- Working knowledge of interoperability tools
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
