Position Summary: The Music & Gospel Arts Director is responsible for the overall administration and coordination of all program development, implementation and ongoing operations related to the Music/Gospel Arts programming at the Flint L.I.F.E. Center and the Flint Citadel Corps. The Music and Gospel Arts Director will create a vibrant variety of music gospel programming leading to practical lessons and performances, which will enhance mission integration between the two centers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a standardized curriculum for all L.I.F.E. Center music programs. Utilize and implement a standard assessment tool for program participants to measure required outcomes
- Oversee coordination and development of class schedules and curriculum
- Establish relationships with local schools for the marketing of both the L.I.F.E. Center music programs and Citadel music programs. Recruit students from partner schools, the general community and existing L.I.F.E. Center programs
- Establish partnerships with local universities and colleges to recruit music teachers
- Develop systems that safeguard all facilities, supplies and equipment related to the Music/Gospel Arts programs
- Recruit, train and supervise all Music/Gospel arts department staff and volunteers
- Incorporate a spiritual discovery element into all music programming, in close coordination with the Youth Development Coordinator
- Plan, implement and supervise Music/Gospel arts showcases. Establish and maintain performance ensembles, including brass. This is primarily done at the L.I.F.E. Center but also includes participation at Flint Citadel, DHQ, and THQ events
- Meet regularly with the Executive Director and the Flint Citadel Officers to coordinate critical operational issues associated with the Music/Gospel Arts programs and program space issues relating to their area of responsibility
- Work in a cooperative manner with other staff and departments of the L.I.F.E. Center and Citadel Corps
- Assist the Divisional Music and Gospel Arts Department by participating in and supporting Divisional Music Groups and Ensembles as needed, including Divisional Music Days.
- Provide support if needed to the Music & Gospel Arts department for special events, including Divisional Events, Concerts, Music & Gospel Arts Camp, Junior Music Conservatory, Senior Music Conservatory, and Music Leaders Conservatory.
- Attend all scheduled staff meetings and training workshops
- Must be flexible to work weeknights, weekends and holidays as needed
- Attend church at The Salvation Army Flint Citadel Corps and make it your church home
- Help teach Flint Citadel Beginning Band
- Participate in Corps Music Programs as able
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications: Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in music or equivalent combination of music education and work experience. Previous teaching experience required
- Knowledge of Salvation Army music and music programs
- Salvation Army Soldier and/or familiarity with S.A. Doctrines require
- Some experience with developing, planning, managing and supervising music programs
- Training and/or education experience in youth programming, ministry, and/or counseling preferred
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Musical training.
- Ability to work/communicate effectively with multi-cultural children and families
Computer Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365
- Working knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint
- Willingness to learn new software as needed
Certificates and Licenses:
- Must have and maintain a current valid driver's license and pass the Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR)
- Complete Safe from Harm training and keep current as needed
