This full-time position is based in Uvalde, Texas, and reports directly to the Director of Historic Sites. About the MuseumThe Briscoe-Garner Museum is dedicated to the remarkable lives of John Nance "Cactus Jack" Garner and Dolph Briscoe, both Uvalde natives and historically important political figures from Texas. The museum, a division of the Briscoe Center for American History at The University of Texas at Austin, is located in Uvalde, Texas. The first floor of the museum documents the life and career of "Cactus Jack" Garner, the first Texan to serve as speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and as vice president of the United States. The second floor is dedicated to Dolph Briscoe who served as Texas governor from 1973 to 1979 and led a distinguished career in public service, business, and ranching. PurposeDirect daily museum operations, including visitor services, programming, safety, and security. Greet visitors and conduct interactive orientations and walking tours. Responsibilities
Bachelor's degree and three years of administrative, operational, or project management experience, including one year of experience at either the Project Assistant or the Project Coordinator level, or high school graduation or GED, and seven years of administrative, operational, or project management experience, including one year at either the Project Assistant or the Project Coordinator level. Experience performing complex administrative functions. Demonstrated experience with planning events. Superior written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated professional demeanor and initiative. Demonstrated strong attention to details, ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines. Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and ability to successfully work with a community. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred QualificationsBachelor's degree and seven years of administrative, operational, or project management experience, including five years at the Project Coordinator level. Prior experience as museum manager in a historical building/setting. Experience as a clerical supervisor. Experience coordinating public programs. Experience in specialized development work or in a related field. Experience working with the public. Demonstrated ability to excel, to be highly motivated, to exercise initiative and willingness to put forth an extra effort getting a task accomplished. Demonstrated ability to be supervised and to be flexible with working assignments and environments. Demonstrated excellent communication and organizational skills. Experience directly related to the essential functions listed. Salary Range$45,000 Working Conditions
