Who We Are

Phyllis Wheatley Community Center (PWCC) has proudly served the Minneapolis Community since 1924 and was the first agency in the Twin Cities committed to meeting the human services needs of a growing African American community. For many Blacks, PWCC was a safe port in the midst of a racially segregated city. Although our community remains chronically underserved today, our organization is dedicated to breaking barriers, fostering opportunities, and creating equity and equality for the African American community.

Wages & Benefits

$40.00 per hour; Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST).

Schedule

This is a temporary, part-time position that works 20 hours per week.

A Typical Day in the Life...

A typical day as Phyllis Wheatley's Women's Wealth & Equity Coordinator provides an opportunity to deliver financial wellness coaching, homeownership counseling, and access to individual development accounts (matched savings) as well as other asset building programs to assist single women in gaining the skills and knowledge needed for asset building, financial independence, and self-determination. Responsibilities will include the following:



  • Developing and delivering a comprehensive curriculum to create individualized financial plans for program participants.
  • Leading classes and providing one-on-one counseling to participants - or working with a contracted organization in the field.
  • Providing detailed information for grant reporting and submitting monthly reports.
  • Guiding, motivating, and supporting participants on their journeys to financial freedom.
  • Recruiting and following up with participants for a period of 12 months after program completion to help ensure success in obtaining a 2:1 savings match.
  • Overseeing culturally specific programs and contracts, including homeownership and home repair, financial wellness, and individual development accounts for income-restricted clients.
  • Developing and monitoring program budgets in partnership with the development and finance departments.
  • Developing positive partnerships and relationships with homeownership professionals, financial institutions, State and County agencies, and other non-profits to promote culturally specific, asset-building strategies.
  • Collaboratively developing and implementing annual program work plans and ensuring staff and programs stay on track to meet goals, objectives, and deliverables.
  • Ensuring regular implementation of program improvements based on client and staff feedback.
  • Supporting the coordination of wraparound services effectively with other PWCC programs and staff.
  • Maintaining required client information in the database system for accurate tracking and reporting.



Who You Are



  • You hold a bachelor's degree and have at least 3 years of work and supervision experience in asset building or a relevant field, or you demonstrate equivalent knowledge gained through education and life experience.
  • You demonstrate the ability to work effectively with diverse populations, particularly within urban and African American communities, and you are familiar with the history of North Minneapolis.
  • You possess strong leadership, strategic planning, and management skills.
  • You have the ability to communicate effectively in large groups or with individuals, including public presentation skills.
  • You have the ability to develop training curriculum and understand teaching methods and practices (preferred but not required).
  • You have the ability to manage databases and understand grant reporting and grant/contract administration (preferred).
  • You have a valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet PWCC's driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit (not applicable for new hires living out of state).
