Job Description

Overview

The Fire Test Manager will oversee all fire testing activities, ensuring they meet industry standards, regulatory requirements, and internal specifications. This role involves planning and executing fire tests, analyzing results, and managing a team of technicians. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Responsibilities

Test Management

  • Plan, schedule, and supervise fire tests in accordance with standards such as ASTM, UL, NFPA, and EN.
  • Ensure proper setup, execution, and teardown of fire tests.
  • Analyze test data and prepare comprehensive reports for internal and external stakeholders.

Team Leadership

  • Lead and mentor fire test technicians and support staff.
  • Provide training on fire testing procedures, safety protocols, and equipment usage.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all testing activities comply with applicable codes, standards, and safety regulations.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and enforce safety procedures during testing.

Equipment & Facility Oversight

  • Manage fire testing equipment and facilities, ensuring proper maintenance and calibration.
  • Recommend upgrades or new equipment purchases as needed.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with engineering and product development teams to support research and development initiatives.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate or bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Proven experience managing teams and projects in a technical or laboratory environment.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in technical report writing and data analysis.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in fire testing or fire safety engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge of fire testing standards and protocols.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CFPS, NICET).
  • Experience with laboratory accreditation processes (e.g., ISO/IEC 17025).
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Inventor and data acquisition systems.
Additional Information

Location & Commitments

  • Permanent full-time roll based in Trussville, AL.
  • Overtime may be required to ensure client projects are completed and delivered on time.
  • Weekend work is rare but can occasionally be necessary.

Summary of Working Conditions

This position may involve potential exposure to hazardous materials, and environmental changes (heat/cold), and the employee must be able to work under stress occasioned by production requirements, personnel, and the needs of other departments, utilizing proper body mechanics.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform essential functions of this job. This employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
