S&ME is looking for an eager and dedicated full-time Senior Laboratory Technician to join our Construction Services team in Greensboro, North Carolina.

About The Role:

As a Senior Laboratory Technician, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality and integrity of construction materials through advanced laboratory testing. You'll perform complex tests on soil, concrete, aggregate, masonry, and asphalt with minimal supervision, while also mentoring junior staff and supporting project proposals. Your expertise will help maintain compliance with industry standards, strengthen client relationships, and contribute to the success of major infrastructure projects.



  • Conduct Advanced Material Testing: Perform routine to complex laboratory tests on soil, concrete, aggregate, masonry, and asphalt with precision and minimal oversight.
  • Maintain and Calibrate Equipment: Ensure all testing equipment is properly maintained and calibrated to guarantee accurate and reliable results.
  • Prepare and Review Reports: Accurately document and report test results using electronic systems, and review work completed by junior technicians.
  • Mentor and Train Team Members: Provide guidance, training, and performance evaluations for junior staff to uphold quality and safety standards.
  • Support Proposals and Client Relations: Assist in preparing project proposals, reviewing plans and specifications, estimating costs, and maintaining strong client relationships to support business development.



About You:



  • You have a High School diploma/GED
  • You have an Associate's degree in civil engineering technology, or a closely related field, a plus
  • You have a minimum of 10years of experience in a construction materials laboratory
  • You have strong math skills and a solid understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
  • You have effective communication skills (reading, writing, and speaking in English)



You Are Willing and Able to:

Perform the physical demands of the position with the use of company-provided Personal Protective Equipment, such as:



  • Working in the office/laboratory most of the time, with occasional fieldwork in varying weather conditions
  • Walking on hard flooring/concrete and standing for potentially up to 12 hours a day
  • Lifting and carrying 40-50 lbs. of field/laboratory samples and equipment
  • Safely maneuvering lab tools and occasionally field equipment on active construction sites
