QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicant must have a technical aptitude, possess a good working knowledge of basic electricity and electronics, and be able to demonstrate this knowledge by passing EEI Tech Test as well as other written and laboratory type tests.

Applicant must have 2 years or more of electrical/electronic maintenance experience.

Applicant must have completed the Educational Requirement for the Relay/SCADA Technician classification or be currently active (or become active in the very next school semester) in obtaining the educational requirements needed to progress to the Relay/SCADA Technician fourth step at a minimum level of one core technical class from the Educational Requirements list of subjects or approved equivalent subject per school semester. Educational requirement must be completed to progress to Relay/SCADA Technician fourth step and beyond.

Applicant must take the department written and lab test to determine entry step into the classification.

Applicant must enroll in and complete the Relay/SCADA Apprenticeship.

Applicant must be able to attain and maintain an Indiana Driver's License.

Applicant must be able to lift and move 50 pound test equipment.

Other general qualifications such as attendance, safety, and performance records will be considered.

PRIMARY DUTIES: Working independently and as a team to install, test, modify, maintain and remove all protective relay, associated communication and SCADA equipment currently in service and new, unfamiliar equipment about to be installed at various Company operating centers, substations, power plants and customer locations.

Performs duties such as:

1. Installing, wiring, testing, calibrating, troubleshooting and commissioning all applicable relay, load control or SCADA equipment and making neat, accurate records of these tests;

2. Reading, interpreting and understanding applicable relay and control schematics, wiring diagrams, instruction books and applicable computer software;

3. Working in conjunction with other employees to install, maintain and troubleshoot applicable communication channels such as microwave, pilot cable, leased, fiber optic or other types of communication circuits used for Relay or SCADA applications;

4. Working in conjunction with other employees to install, test, remove and maintain applicable power supply and battery systems and keeping accurate records of these installations or tests;

5. Contacting or working with employees of other companies such as customer representatives, equipment suppliers and Relay/SCADA technicians of other utilities;

6. Minor field engineering; making, correcting and submitting drawings of finished work; writing specialized reports on certain aspects of the work;

7. Acts as a Relay/SCADA project leader on moderately complex projects, such as the construction of relay, communication and SCADA components for substations, power plants and customer locations;

8. Working effectively with customers, when applicable, having electrical system problems or complaints, locates, identifies and helps correct these situations;

9. Instructs and trains personnel of less experience on the technical aspects of their job.

In addition to the primary duties listed above, the employee may be called upon to perform other work, as circumstances require.

Must know and comply with all Company safety and health policies and procedures applicable to work performance.

Relay/SCADA Technician Educational Requirement

The educational requirement for the Relay/SCADA Technician Position is successful completion of an Associate of Science Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology meeting the requirements described below:

1. The degree is a minimum of Associate of Science Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited university or college, to include a program where physical lab experience is concurrent with lecture.

2. The degree core curriculum must substantially cover these topics and:

* Technical mathematics - college algebra and trigonometry

* AC/DC fundamentals and circuits analysis

* Digital fundamentals and circuits analysis

* General Physics

* Motors and transform technology

* Computer programming

* Control systems

3. The completion of such schooling has been documented and can be verified.

Progression from the fifth step to the fourth step is intended to comply with section 7.03 of the physical unit collective bargaining agreement. However, employees will not progress to the fourth step and beyond until they have completed all of the job requirements including completing the minimum educational requirements for pension band L Relay/SCADA Technician.

Failure to remain active in obtaining the educational requirements needed to progress to the Relay/SCADA Technician fourth step at a minimum level of one core technical class from the Educational Requirements list of subjects or approved equivalent subject per school semester may result in transfer out of the Relay/SCADA Technician classification unless extenuating circumstances can be identified and accepted by the Company.
