The Opportunity: Mattel is seeking a versatile 2D Concept & Marketing Artist who brings a creative flair to both in-game visual concepts and marketing/UA asset production. This unique hybrid role focuses on:
- Concept Art: Crafting compelling 2D characters, props, environments, and key-art visuals that inform production pipelines.
- Marketing & UA Design: Producing polished, performance-driven ad assets-banners, icons, screenshots, social ads-for UA campaigns and store presence.
You'll join our art team, reporting to the Art Director with a dotted-line relationship with the Senior Manager of Growth, collaborating with products, UA, and creative teams. What Your Impact Will Be:
- Develop and iterate 2D art assets (characters, props, environments, UI concepts) aligned with creative briefs.
- Produce thumbnails, mood boards, and polished key-art for external developers and pitch decks, aligning to Mattel's brands.
- Demonstrate a flexible artistic approach, adapting easily across multiple art styles and genres.
- Ensure brand consistency and adherence to style guidelines across all assets, whether produced internally or by external partners.
- Design impactful marketing creatives: app-store banners, splash screens, social-media ads, and UA campaign visuals.
- Collaborate with UA managers to create A/B test-ready creatives optimized for conversion, and work with analytics and production teams to iterate designs based on performance data.
- Adapt UA art compositions/formats for multiple platforms.
- Work closely with production, participate in brainstorming, sprint planning, and pipeline reviews.
- Maintain deadlines, delivering assets in a timely manner.
What We're Looking For:
- BA/BS in Illustration, Graphic Design, Fine Arts, or equivalent.
- 5+ years as a 2D Concept Artist, ideally in game/art pipeline environments.
- 2+ years designing UA or promotional game assets (e.g., banners, icons).
- Exceptional digital painting, strong composition, visual storytelling; proficiency from thumbnails to final art.
- Strong proficiency in industry-standard art software (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma, Maya, Unity).
- Strong communicator within cross-disciplinary teams.
- Proactively incorporate feedback, take swift action, and provide timely updates without prompting.
- Data/marketing-savvy including basic analytics for UA creative insights.
- Exceptional organizational, multitasking, and time management skills, with a commitment to meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality standards.
- Ability to manage a high volume of assets and keep files clean.
- An enthusiastic attitude, adaptability, and eagerness to collaborate effectively in a dynamic environment.
- A portfolio demonstrating both concept-art and marketing assets formatted for UA/store use.
- Demonstrated agrowth mindset by staying curious and continuously learning, embracing challenges, and improving themselves.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have):
- Experience with IP and maintaining brand fidelity.
- Skills in animation for key UA assets.
- Aid in visual storytelling via storyboards or promo visuals.
- Experience working in Unreal.
The annual base salary range for this position is between $79,000 and $116,000.
