Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

This position performs all aspects of the procurement of tooling, fixtures, and related services required to support the manufacture of titanium castings done in-plant and/or through sub-contractors. Position works under the support of the Development Engineering Manager and the Purchasing Manager to develop the necessary structure and tools to manage a quality, cost-effective, performance oriented supplier base.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Generate wax injection die dimensional requirements, wax injection die concept review and approval, wax injection die proving (dimensional and functional)
  2. Design and order wax nesting boards
  3. Quote and procure tooling and fixtures as needed for part production.
  4. Interface with PCC Schlosser Engineering and vendor to ensure the timely procurement of cost effective tooling, fixtures and services.
  5. Develop and maintain the necessary tools to track and measure supplier performance.
  6. Develop and initiate purchasing projects to reduce costs, improve lead times and improve the quality of goods and services.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. Knowledge of basic math/statistics and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ASME Y14.5)
  2. Technical knowledge of front-end processes, machining, saw injection dies, aerospace blueprints and customer specifications requirements.
  3. Knowledge of procurement policies and procedures; knowledge of MRP systems.
  4. Ability to perform root cause analysis and determine corrective actions for tooling/fixturing related issues.
  5. Knowledge of investment casting process and knowledge of wax/metal shrink.
  6. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  7. Ability to distill technical requirements from customer specs, PO's, and Drawings and determine if the process is capable.
  8. Ability to manage Change Order Requests from quotation through implementation
  9. Ability to multi-task, organize and prioritize tasks, manage process or product projects, and work effectively with other departments and outside vendors.
  10. Knowledge of SPC/6-sigma and ability to visualize 3 dimensionally
  11. Technical knowledge of gating, process capabilities, and fixturing.
  12. Ability to work with limited supervision with attention to detail.
  13. Knowledge of and demonstrated computer skills including Windows, MS Word and Excel.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Manufacturing Technology or related discipline with minimum of 3 years experience in purchasing or project management; and minimum of 1 year experience working in production planning or a machining organization. Experience working in wax injection die development/manufacturing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to communicate, write, type and operate office equipment. Ability to exert over thirty-five pounds of force to move objects. Ability to work in an environment with exposure to noise, dust, chemicals and varying temperatures.
