Plans, oversees and coordinates the daily assignments and activities of Gas Operations Gas Construction field crews. Ensures that these activities are performed in accordance with applicable safety and environmental instructions and procedures, operating procedures and engineering plans and specifications, in order to affect the safe, timely, efficient and reliable installation, maintenance, repair and inspection of the gas distribution system and associated equipment. Ensures compliance with all laws, regulations, Company policies and appropriate industry standards. Responsible for gas construction activities across the service territory, including Spring Valley, Blooming Grove, and Middletown. Requires weekly field presence at all three work locations.
Core Responsibilities
- Plans, coordinates and implements Gas Operations programs and work activities in accordance with applicable procedures and specifications without compromising safety or system integrity and reliability.
- Ensures timely and appropriate response of gas emergency calls, gas facility inspections, and completion of annual programs as required, in accordance with applicable company specifications and governmental regulations.
- Administers and communicates operating and environmental procedures in order to ensure safe work practices and a commitment to environmental excellence.
- Coordinates and ensures the availability and timely delivery of materials, supplies and equipment. Participates in monthly materials meeting, and Gas Standards meeting.
- Plans, organizes, schedules and assures the assignment of personnel to optimize productivity and meet departmental and company operating goals.
- Provides participation into the organization's training, safety, environmental and training programs.
- Evaluates the performance of the group and assists in determining human resource needs and provides input into the organization's budget, training, safety and environmental plans and programs.
- Communicates, coordinates and provides guidance to personnel on work-rule compliance, good housekeeping and work area protection practices. Monitors and administers safety, environmental and training programs.
- Promotes a customer service-oriented team between Operating Supervisors and crews by emphasizing professionalism, honesty, courtesy, excellence and teamwork in the group. Monitors compliance with Company policies and procedures, e.g. Performance Evaluations, EEO, Substance Abuse, Discipline, Security, Productivity, Environmental Instructions, Standards of Business Conduct, etc.
- Ensures Compliance to Company, governmental and regulatory requirements and provides liaison with agency representatives as required. Fosters human performance initiatives.
- Essential to be available to respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis including stand-by rotations when required. Ensures proper response to emergencies and interfaces with the Gas Emergency Response Center (GERC) and Gas Control Center (GCC). May supply and direct resources during emergencies.
- Promotes a positive orientation to customers and actively seeks to increase customer satisfaction and improve the Company's public image.
- Promotes employee development and actively participates in leadership development programs such as the LDP and also provides for employee training and mentoring, and the development of opportunities that support diversity in the workplace.
- Provides assistance to and fill in for the Section Manager as required.
- Participates in the Company's emergency management processes and storm plans.
- Performs special projects and other related assignments as required.
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree and 3+ years in the engineering or operation/maintenance of gas, steam or electric systems. or
- Associate's Degree and 4+ years overall experience, of which 3 years are in the engineering or operation/maintenance of gas, steam or electric systems. or
- High School Diploma/GED and 5+ years overall experience, of which 3 years are in the engineering or operation/maintenance of gas, steam or electric systems.
Relevant Work Experience
- 3-5 years Must have a minimum of three years of supervisory experience. Must demonstrate computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and well as related Company systems. Required
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively work with all levels of management and union personnel, vendors and contractors. Required
- Must have the ability to direct the activities of a large group in an effective and harmonious manner. Required
- Must be able to balance priorities, handle multiple assignments and take decisive action. Required
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to foster a team spirited work environment in support of the Company's Corporate Values and Mission. Required

Additional Physical Demands
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
- Must be willing to work in any of the Gas operating areas.
- Must be willing to become Gas Operator Qualified within one year of being awarded the position.
